    Former Rams Linebacker #57

Many of you may not be aware that BigRedMan (Randy) was in training camp for the Rams in 1979. He has shared with me that he played in a preseason game before getting cut from the team. He still has his helmet from that time. He borrowed money from Lawrence McCutcheon. He practiced with Jack Youngblood, Hacksaw Jim Reynolds, and others of the stout Rams defense of the day. For those that do not remember, that was the year the Rams went to their first Super Bowl. So, is that enough to keep this thread in the RAM TALK section for a few days, mods?

I made this figure for Randy when he turned 50 a few years ago:

Unfortunately, Randy is fighting pancreatic cancer and is having a tough go at it. Keenum and I have been posting updates in a thread in the Lounge to keep everyone informed.

If you can, I need your help. Anyone here that has any pictures of Randy, (especially any of you with Randy), could you send them to me with:Screen name:
    Real Name:
    Approximate Date:
    Brief Description:

I plan to put together a photo album to give to Randy. I intend to make a trip to El Paso withing the next week or two. My email address is: meanestklingon@cox.net

Please pur Randy Pics in the subject line. Thanks for your help with this.

    Jack

Best of luck with the photo album you are making, and thanks for posting about his time with the Rams. All I knew for sure was that he was in a training camp with him, didn't know it was their Super Bowl year.

I was thinking about Big Red and was wondering how he was fairing. Sad to hear he is having a tough time. Tell him he is in all our prayers here at the Clan and we miss him.

Thanks for the insight on his experience with the Rams. I wish we can get him a laptop in there so he can continue to amaze us with his will and wit.

Once again "WE ARE WITH YOU BIG RED MAN!!!"

How could someone not be an awesome friend to a great guy like Randy? As I find out things, I post to the thread in the Lounge to keep everyone updated.

    Dear Alpha,

I wish Randy the absolute best and hope for recovery. You are a source of strength for him in his time of need and are a great friend. The Rams were favored to go far that year but had a rough go, 6-7 after week 13. They won out the last three games to make it into the playoffs. Super bowl XIV was very exciting and Rams had lead at start of 4th qtr.

    God bless you and Randy.....

Aside from the other thread, I'll use this one here to wish Big Red well and, indeed, we ... Clan brethren ... are with you. N I M O amigo.

Thanks Alpha, sorry I don't have any BRM pics.

Randy's address is in the thread located in the Lounge section. That would be great if you were to send him a card.

Heh now that all their posts are removed, I just look crazy.

When word first came out I contact the Rams about hiring a few cheerleaders to go visit him in the hospital when he's at CTCA. I told his story and inquired twice about the costs and if it was even possible, but I just got ignored. I still think it would be something great to do and I'm sure many people here would chip in for the cost, but I'm not sure what else to do. Maybe someone with some contacts with the Rams...hint hint Dez...could help make it happen.
