Re: General Manager search..
I don't think so Tomahawk. I think Fisher wants somemone who can run a very effective scouting unit and can make accurate opinions on potential players. He wants someone who can find the diamonds in the rough and then let Fisher mold them into what he needs.
Fisher might want to be the guy who picks his final roster(almost certainly), but I don't think he needs to be the outright final decision maker when it comes to bringing a guy in or not. He'd want someone who can play devil's advocate to make sure that the guy is the right guy and vice versa.I believe!

Re: General Manager search..
Per Jim Thomas big name emerges in GM interviews
Khan is the guy many believe to be the right hand man in Pittsburgh. He has been with the organization since 2001. Read up on the guy. He has a great background.Just when you thought Rams were done with their general manager interviews: Pittsburgh's Omar Khan expected to interview w/Rams Thursday.
He is suddenly my #1 choice for the job, coming from that great organization.
Such a thorough search we are doing, and I love it.

Re: General Manager search..
Just so you know, I am copywriting the phrase "Wrath of Khan". You've been warned Post-Dispatch.

Re: General Manager search..
I have actually been much more patient with this search than I was the HC search , LOL.
I think we are going to bag an amazing GM candidate, given how long this process has taken.
One more thought, given that Khan is considered a salary cap genius, I wonder if we will relieve Demoff of his duties, and give him a promotion to Team President. I remember reading that Kroenke wanted to hire a Team President, and Kevin seems like a great guy for that role. He would be a great spokesman for the franchise. This offseason, Kevin has seemed to take on more of a executive role than just a contract negotiator.

Per Softli we have been granted permission
League and Ram source have confirmed receiving permission to interview Steelers director of business and administration Omar Khan for GMLast edited by THOLTFAN81; -02-09-2012 at 01:05 PM.

I'm not going to lie......that position title makes me a little nervous. Sounds too Zygmuntesque for my liking.League and Ram source have confirmed receiving permission to interview Steelers director of business and administration Omar Khan for GM"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: General Manager search..
Yeah I'm with you there. I think I remember Fisher saying something like "I have no idea which guard to take in the 6th round. That's why you have a scouting department" in reference to the GM search and the "final say" issue. The thing that is going to make a good GM (for the Rams, right now) is someone who has experience in scouting and can make informed decisions about talent. To be able to sift through what the scouts see and find those gems in the 5th and 6th rounds.
I just don't see how a director of business and administration could possibly have that skill set. Demoff already does a great job with the cap/player negotiations. I don't see why they would need someone they already have.

Re: General Manager search..
Per Tony Softli, its beginning to get narrowed down
Excited to find out who it will be, as we got some great candidates.Several sources have confirmed St. Louis Rams have started eliminating GM candidates, notifying them by phone early this evening

Re: General Manager search..
True...but this guy is considered a bright young mind, and is supposedly the #2 in Pittsburgh, a hell of an organization. I'm sure he has learned a lot in ten years about evaluating talent.
Another thing to keep in mind: GMs Mike Tennenbaum (NYJ), Mickey Loomis (NO), Howie Roseman (PHI) were all in the same role or a role similar to the one Omar is in during the years leading up to their promotions to GM. Those are three of the better GMs in the NFL. Not saying it makes Omar a lock to be successful, but if we even get permission to interview him he'd be my lead choice.

The newest candidate (as far as we know) to draw the Rams' interest is Pittsburgh Steelers executive Omar Khan. This is an interesting candidate for a few reasons. First of all, Khan is known as a salary-cap specialist and business-side expert. He's not a football guy. "
If Fisher is calling all the football shots then Khan makes sense I guess. He sounds like more of a manager type than a player evaluator type. It will be interesting to see where this search ends up.
