You'd rather have this guy taking the snaps?

    Really?

Why? All Feeley's proven he can do is play below average football. You're telling me Lewis couldn't have done at the very least the same? Ideally Lewis should have been kept and given a chance to suceed should something have happened to Bradford, and had Feeley around in case Lewis couldn't produce when in counts. Feeley is bad...and old...and I'm not sure what the team sees in him to be honest.

I don't think Warner's stats were any better when he came in.

Wow, guys...please don't make me defend a journeyman like Feeley. The 2 QB idea scares the snot out of me, no matter who the back-up is, & I wish they had kept Lewis as well as AJ but with the new game day roster rules , I understand why DeSpags are taking the gamble on the experience/mentor thing plus an extra STs guy every game.

And if the best arguments for Thad are the Warner miracle & some preseason scrub time heroics.... .It's not as if Feeley didn't move the offense at all vs tougher opposition during pre-season himself. Much more worried about the drop off to back-up OT.

If Sam Bradford had 4-5 more years of experience, then I think Lewis would have been the clear choice. But we have to keep in mind that we're still talking about a relatively young player as the starting quarterback, a guy who is entering his second year. Even though Feeley does not have the familiarity with this system as he did with Shurmur's, there's still value in keeping him around as Sam continues to develop into an NFL quarterback.

Furthermore, I just read that Lewis will be the #3 in Cleveland so it's not as if Shurmur was willing to roll the dice on Thad, either.

    No, but DeSpags is.

No, AJ Feeley is not the world's best backup quarterback. Hell, he might not even give us as good of a chance to win if he had to play than Lewis might. There's certainly less film on Lewis.

But what AJ gives us is more important than what he would give us on the field. In his career he's started 13 games, thrown over 600 passes in the regular season, and most importantly knows how to be a clipboard commando. He's that 12th man who is whispering into Sam's ear about what he's seeing and helping Sam to figure out what Sam is seeing. He's the mentor that will help shape Bradford just as much as McDaniels will. Lewis can't do that, and I'd much rather get a better starting quarterback than have a slightly better chance of winning if he were to go down.
