Going home... behind enemy lines
This weekend, I return to the place where I grew up. Sunny South Florida.
I grew up in the City of Hollywood, which is located between Miami and Fort Laurderdale. After four years away for college, I returned to the University of Miami for Law School, then lived and worked in South Florida for 14 years before moving to the Orlando area.
If my allegiance were based solely on geography, I'd be a fan of the Miami Dolphins.
However, as a child, I was (and, I know... this will come as a great shock to you all) a contrarian. I didn't want to be a fan of the home team along with the majority of my classmates (nor did I want to join the legions of Cowboys and Steelers fans who were common in the mid to late 70s).
So I chose a team with a cool uniform, and the coolest guy ever to wear it (Jack Youngblood)
Over 30 years later, I'm still stuck on the horns.
So, this Sunday, I'm heading back home to cheer on the Rams against the Dolphins. It won't be like the Bash - I'm actually sitting with Dolphin fans!
Hopefully, my cheers will be heard...
Hopefully, the Rams will emerge with a victory...
And, most importantly, hopefully I'll make it back to my car okay!
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Going home... behind enemy lines
I have to admit, im kind of in the same boat. Growing up in Tampa bay the majority of my life i should be a bucs fan. And in Tampa there are a lot of steelers fans as well(such a shame, don't know why philly fans are so common in Fl.). I never liked the bucs and chose the Rams in 95 when they moved to STl and loved there uni's(i was 11 at this time). Wish i was at the game. Have fun at the game man.

When you go to Miami, get lots of the free Dolphins stuff. I hear they are giving it to Rams fans - you can get it and sell it to the highest bidder on ebay. From what I hear, there's lots of empty seats, so you should be able to get a great seat.

I will be their bright and early. If people want to start trouble I guess I will have to represent clanram. I am not looking for a problem, but hey if people want to give me **** I am not afraid to use my 6'6 230 pound structure to represent this team and fan base.

Dont worry about your safety AV! All 3 of the Dolphins fans attending that game can't handle you!

Don't worry Av, the place will be empty by the time the game is over. In any case, watch out for the blindside from that dorsel. Cuts like a razor man.
Patient, not saintly.

I know exactly what you mean Av. Growing up in the NJ area my whole life I would be a Giant or Jet fan by geography, but the funny truth is I hate both teams pretty passionately.
(Probably due to the fans around here being so fair weather)

Re: Going home... behind enemy lines
I'm guessing you'll be walking out of the stadium with a smile on your face Av. I'll be interested to hear what kind of representation Rams fans make in Miami. I've been to dozens of away games, and with the excepton of Choaktown, there always seems to be a lot of Rams fans in attendance.
Have a great time.

You are not the only hardcore fan who has brought their talent to south beach. Ill be the fan on the other side of the field yelling at out boys to squish the fish

Re: Going home... behind enemy lines
I share many similarities with those on this thread. Though I've lived in NJ for 30 years, I also grew up in South Florida and my father played football for The University of Miami. My grandparents lived blocks from the old Orange Bowl and I actually kicked extra points on the field as a kid. Despite them buying me a Dolphins jacket and despite many friends who were 'Fins fans, I chose the Rams because of my love for the colors and Florida's own Jack Youngblood.
I am taking a flight down and will be in attendance Sunday. Hopefully, we take care of business before heading into the brutal part of our schedule.

On my way South. Saw a couple of Ram fans at a rest stop. Got booed at a gas station.
