Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
Tough loss.
Rams had the opportunity to win in the last 2 minutes on the road against a playoff team.
Don't like the outcome, but I can see a lot to build on from here.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
I was gutted at that outcome even though I expected it with the time the Lions had left. Still going into the game I felt that an opening day game at a Lions team with an explosive offense and the Rams with so many rookies was going to end in a trouncing for the Rams. People can say that the turnovers kept us in the game and of course they did but thats what this young team has to do and hasn't done in previous years, be opportunistic. Long way from the finished article and as disappointed I was with the last few drives I'm just glad the Rams were in with a chance right down to the end. That is promising, sure we need to close it out but at least its a step in right direction. However without better play on both lines it will be very difficult.

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
I understand what you mean, but I also don't. Both losses show up as an L int he W-L record, but there is a significant difference in the way the Rams lost today as compared to last year. This year they look like they might be able to win some games, and if they add a little more talent, compete soon.
So, regardless of the fact it still counts as a loss, I don't see how you can just say "I didn't see them improve"

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
I just wanted to say that Megatron is a beast, and sort of the reason I can't place full blame on the Rams defense, because what can you do? He attracts double teams, and on that last play, a triple team....I mean our defender left his assignment to triple team Calvin Johnson in the endzone! I wondered why Pettigrew was so open, and i remembered...Megatron. This is a tough offense to stop, I really wished we blitzed a bit more, but we seemed to get some pressure with 3-4 guys.

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
We might have officially lost the game but it was a moral victory.Defense played great and caused turnovers, offense did ok i guess. We didnt get much pressure on stafford we need brockers back to hold the middle down.Loosing 2 o lineman isnt good either but all in all i loved the way we fought and it was against a quality team.We could of won but as young as we are this is how these games usually go.Janoris already paying dividends!!!!

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
I was prepared for the worst, but surprised by the fact that the Rams didn't get their doors blown off. The defense kept the Rams in the game and the in-game-decision-making by both Fish and Bradford, including the final play on which Bradford should have just chucked it ('Hail Mary...") rather than take a sack. A few leftover questions:
Why did Jackson get so many carries when they have complimentary backs who could have given the Lions a different look?
Why didn't the Rams pick up the fact that Megatron was acting as a decoy for most of the second half?
What happened just before the 2 minute warning that caused the Rams to burn a TO and stop the clock (I don't think the officials blew the call IMHO)?

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
dude you quoted me saying there was improvement!!
All I'm saying is I'll be satisfied once we actually win!
Has anyone else ever lost a close game and felt just as bad if not worse than you did when you were blown out, knowing that you were just *this close* to victory as opposed to not standing a chance in the first place?
Who do you think feels worse about the 1999 season, the Titans or the Browns?
Again, more clearly: There was improvement. But I'll be happy about the improvement once it leads to a 'win'.Last edited by Fettmaster; -09-09-2012 at 04:54 PM.

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
Losing was a shot to the gut, but playing a competitive game and seeing a complete change of attitude in the team was encouraging. If anything, the performance today gives me hope for the future.

Re: Gutted . . . But much improved.
Rough game, wish we had won that. Our offensive line was shaky, now minus 2 starters, we should be very worried. Detroits defensive line molested our entire offense. At least our defense looked good. We allowed a lot of yardage (less than last year still), but we played hard and got turnovers. Hopefully our offense will pick up and help our defense for once!
