Hadley Reporting Rams Will Sign S.Rice, E.Conwell

Hadley is reporting on his site that they are "dotting the I's and crossing the T's" on a deal w/Simeon Rice, and will also add Ernie Conwell to the roster.

My question is...can any of them play offensive tackle?

Yeah, we're pretty thin at the OT spot right now.

Hadley is also reporting that the Rams are trying to trade Fitzpatrick.

Of course, you have to take Hadley with a grain of salt, as he has prematurely "broken" stories before that have proven incorrect.

    Stay tuned.

I've seen reports on CBS that Rice is locked in already and signed. That's fine, not sure he's a major filler of major need at this point in his career. Would rather the money and time was spent on CB or OT.

I'm assuming Rice will be used as a passing down DE? If, IF he can still pressure the opposing QB like he used to I'm all for this signing. Our secondary just got better.:r

wejust started cutting players , including a te - anelli , now we just added another , this makes no sense too me at all , why cut hedgecock , for an older te/hb , to use as a fullback . that gives us 4-te's again until tomorrow . and as for RICE , trever johnson , has been doing great this preseason , the 4th DE spot was between him and MOORE , i would like JOHNSON , high motor , never quits , and doesn't over pursue like MOORE , so where does RICE fit in , we dump JOHNSON -MOORE , for an older RICE - that gives us 3-old vet's and 1 young guy at DE . and HALL and RICE are coming off injuries from last year.

I agree with your "IFs". Rice is a major IF at this point. IF he is better than Hall, fine.

Conwell on the other hand is a complete mystery to me. How long until Conwell is out 6 weeks with an injury?

Re: Hadley Reporting Rams Will Sign S.Rice, E.Conwell

A couple of hours have passed, and still no confirmation from any other source.

Let me go on record with this: I don't think Hadley knows anything other than what we all knew this morning - that Rice is visiting at Rams Park today. This is a typical Hadley ploy - claim to be "breaking" a story regarding something that might happen. If it proves to be correct, gloat. If not, don't worry, as the original "breaking of the story" has enough hedge in it (in this case, saying that the deal is near, but not final) that you can always back out and say the deal fell through.

I hope its right. I think Rice would be a good addition (even if he needs a few weeks to get healthy enough to contribute) to the defense.

But I won't believe it until I see it reported somewhere credible.

Not too excited about Rice (33) at all, precisely for the reasons mentioned in posts above.

Conwell I like very much but we MUST KEEP Hedgecock, please!

Lets' get Milford Brown to trim down a bit and play T. Right now he's around 330, a nice big guard. Start practicing OT N-O-W.

I like the Rice signing. Personally, I wasn't that impressed by Trevor Johnson. Even if he can pick up sacks against the opponent's twos and threes, he hasn't looked that quick off the edge to me. Moore might be a little better pass rusher, but I feel certain Rice would give us a more legitimate backup.

I'm not so certain about the Conwell signing. I liked Conwell back when, but now he's 35. I hope this doesn't mean the end of Aaron Walker's tenure as a Ram.

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything Goldenfleece said. I also saw on NFL Live today the same thing everyone said, which is that Rice is visiting Rams Park today. The Conwell thing may be bogus, I am not to sure about that.

Indeed, I kind of expected it to have broken by now if they were dotting and crossing letters as Hadley said.

If Rice does sign, I'll be anxious to see the contract terms. If he's signed before Week One, his base salary for this year will have to be guaranteed.

“He [S. Rice] is here really more for a physical to really just kind of get an update on where he’s at. That’s kind of where we are. Everything is preliminary with him right now. There’s nothing substantial to report on that front until we get through the physical.” -- Coach Linehan
