Hall refuses to campaign for Governor’s Cup

By Bill Coats
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Never has a season gone by in his nine-year NFL career that Dante Hall has not experienced a Governor’s Cup game — seven with the Chiefs and now two with the Rams. So, if anyone understands the compelling nature of the annual matchup, it’s Hall.

Right, Dante?

“It’s mean nothing.”

Uh . . . you’ve played on both teams. Doesn’t the game make a difference to you?

“Not at all.”

Well . . . any memories of previous Governor’s Cup games?

“I have no memories.”

So . . . nothing that comes back to you?

“Not at all.”

<><><>

Scott Linehan has a different view of the GC tilt. He said it qualifies as a legitimate rivalry.

“Of course . . . cross-state rivals,” Linehan said. “It’s important. . . . I think both teams probably follow each other a little bit because we’re so close to each other.”

Preseason or not, you know Linehan is aching to take a three-game winning streak into the opener next week in Philly.

All for now . . . more after Thursday night ’s game from Arrowhead Stadium.

The three game winning streak would give us some motivation against Philly. I hope things are great come the real season.

Re: Hall refuses to campaign for Governor’s Cup

Hall is right

when it comes down to it, the game is a preseason game and nothing to get worked up for. Especially so close to the start of the regular season where you wouldnt want to risk injury. if winning the Governor's Cup would get us in the playoffs, then it would mean something

Despicable !! I don't know how the man can look himself in the eye ... This isn't for peanuts and marbles folks -- it's for the "CUP" .. Shameful comments by a highly paid Rams' player .. Dante's cavalier attitude could well cost him his roster spot ..
..

I could be mistaken though ..

Re: Hall refuses to campaign for Governor’s Cup

playing a preseason game for "The Cup"...is all media hype...It doesnt mean a thing..It a ploy to get the stands filled and ratings for a game that most vet will not even suit up for. Dont believe the hype....I wanna win 16 cups starting week one in philly. Can week one be considered a must win....humm consider this....0-1 with at New England, Dallas, at Seattle, at Washington and NYG on the horizon. Those were all playoff teams last year..... Hate to have a must win against any of them...

Dante Hall is awesome, and clearly loves the great state of Missouri. I know it's hard to judge a tone of someone on the internet, but this guy needs some more balls thrown his way, or a hug or something.

Re: Hall refuses to campaign for Governor’s Cup

Governor's Cup or not this is a huge game for alot of players that are battling for a roster spot. Of course it doesn't mean much to the guys that know they are a lock for the upcoming season.
