    Is Harvey Dahl.......

    .......worth $2.5m next season?

I read that 2014 is his last year under contract and it's for $4m. He ended the season with a MCL strain and should be ready for next season.

    I gather he's not a $4m OG, but, is he a $2.5m OG?

I get there from simply extending him one year for 1 million and restructuring the remaining deal, thus 5 over two more seasons equals $2.5m. <is that too simplistic>

Would Harvey rather be cut? or would he play for a potential $5m for two seasons for the Rams?

I'd sure like to not have so many vacancies on the OL this off season. What would the Rams have to spend on a vet to replace him? I liked him more than Smith for sure.

    Thoughts?

He's injury prone, he better take a paycut if he wants to stay with us. I'd rather give Saffold $5mil a season.

It depends on if Harvey is willing to do the deal. We still have to see what Saffold can garner on the open market, who knows some team desperate for a T may break the bank for him (we've seen it happen before, remember Dolphin fans called us stupid for spending the money we did on Long with his injury history).

There I wouldn't know...building an O-line is more then putting a body in to fill a hole...chemistry, complimentary skill sets, and leadership make for the core of an O-line. Sadly us fans don't get to see the small details that coaching staffs see, just the results. Here have to put some faith that Fisher and Co. know what they are doing--and complain next season at what I don't like

My plan of action would be to cut Dahl and use that money to sign Saffold. But first we need to know if Saffold wants to come back. I like the idea of Saffold staying at RG unless there's injuries, but I'm not so sure he likes that idea as much as myself. For instance, if Long isn't ready opening day and there isn't a suitable replacement, Saffold could shift their until Long's healthy.

OK, I get those points. But, is Dahl worth paying $2.5m next season?

Seems he'd have some chemistry with the holdovers too.

    Re: Is Harvey Dahl.......

To answer your question simply, yes. He's worth $2.5, but you're extending him for another year where that may prove problematic as we have several other free agents to contend with. I think much of the decision on Dahl will rest on what develops with Saffold as he represents a longer term investment. There is also a longer term relationship between Snead and Dahl going back to Atlanta for whatever that's worth.

I do agree with your point about "chemistry with the holdovers". More than most other positions, O-Line players need to be in sync with each other. The only one requiring more harmony is QB and WR.

I say no. We have to figure for that salary we aren't even going to get a full season out of him. I'd rather go young and coach up.
