Has anyone noticed this?

After watching youtube videos and looking at training camp photos (particularly of Chris Lee's photos for the PD), I can't help but think Steven Jackson looks 20 lbs thinner. Expanding on that, it begs the question: Did J-Mac ask Steven to lose the weight to enhance Jackson's role in the new offense. I haven't read anywhere that Jackson reported to camp lighter, but it sure looks like it to me. I should add that he looks ripped and in great shape too. Thoughts?

My thoughts exactly .. It will be interesting to see if any "official" word on this comes down the pipe as training camp progresses ..

I'm not a big SJ fan not a hatter either... that being said I liked what he said on day one... he wants to establish himself once again in the league as that three down back! Thinks McDaniel will help him get back in the passing game. I think SJ will have a huge year! I will go on record and say his best ever year! Stay healthy SJ!

And as I've said all offseason, I want to get Jax to be our 2nd and 3rd down back and get him a big back who will take on the tough carries. Jax getting lighter and faster is the exact thing to do for this and will make him just as dangerous as he was in 2006 for the pass game. Just think of the Pats' where Kevin Faulk and Danny Woodhead take the short dumpoff from Brady and bust through the defense. Now picture it with Jax, who can punish the DB's on the perimeter who try to take him out!

I read from one offseason report that Jackson is definitely lighter and slimmer this year with the guy saying he looked more like a sleek, new hummer than a full on battle tank.

I like it and will welcome the newfound burst that lost weight will give back to his game. People say SJ looked slower with less burst but you have to remember the guy was running around 240.

I worry about backs who "lose weight". Think Ron Dayyne, he was never the same after the weight loss. We will see how this plays out, but it makes me weary.

Ya I think the year before last he said him not being at the proper strength and size contributed to him getting injured. That's why he bulked up. Hope this doesnt effect him at all.

I saw Jackson a few weeks ago, and I didn't really think about it, but now that I do it really does look like he slimmed down a bit. He's still a rock solid muscle though!

Its because he usually played at 234 lbs. Then last offseason he put on 9 lbs of pure muscle to strengthen his back that he had an injury on which brought him up to 245. Now he is probably back to his usual weight at 234lbs ish.

If he's dropped down under 234 lbs, will that increase his elusiveness? He's been trying to impersonate Faulk's playstyle lately and if that's the case, it should work out for him.
