Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

I noticed he was getting carries behind SJ. What does this mean, is he number two behind SJ?

Re: Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

This guy could be a steal for us, had a great run yesterday. But to answer the question I think it's just Linehan wanting Leonard to get settled at being the lead blocker for SJ thus limiting his own carries. When SJ went down Leonard stepped in for him and if the same thing was to happen again then Leonard would get the majority of the run's..

Not sure, but to me, it looked that way. He was certainly useful carrying the ball.

Re: Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

I think that would be impossible. Leonard was never brought in to be the featured back and certainly Pittman would have a better chance of filling that role.

Re: Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

Leonard has too much upside and can do much more things than just be a RB. In a more likely scenario, Pittman replaces Minor.

My take is that the Rams envision different roles for Brian and Antonio. With the emergence of Pittman as a true running back, Brian will be able to focus on being a lead blocker, blitz-pickup specialist, and receiver out of the backfield in addition to getting a tote now and then as a FB. Pittman likely has moved ahead of Travis Minor and will back up Jackson as Minor is more a third down back than an every down running back. In summary, it looks as if our overall rb talent got cranked up another notch

Pittman can't block.

He doesn't have a Touchdown. He doesn't have a 100 yard game.

Let's wait to anoint him.

Take away his longest run and he was 6 carries for 10 yards.

He was averaging two yards per carry before that game.

Re: Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

He certainly would be a nice change up to Jackson in terms of speed. Like Tony said, let's wait to annoint him, but he had some nice bursts in his first action. Hopefully he'll get more carries in coming weeks to see what he can do. Leonard might make a better H Back.

Anoint him as what? you're right that he is basically an unproven rookie, however he excelled at the major college level, and was the fourth or fifth rated running back in the 2007 draft. Travis Minor will be 29 next June, and Pittman will turn 22 this December. He's a little bigger, faster, and alot younger, plus we got him on the cheap. Therefore it isn't too great a stretch to project him as an improvement over Minor.

Re: Has Pittman moved ahead of BL?

Hard to tell what's going on with the backs, but Pittman got 7 carries to Leonard's 2. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues against the whiners.

Hit the nail on the head. I don't think he's replacing Brian Leonard...not yet at least. He still has a lot of proving to do. As blocking goes, from what I've seen, Leonard has surpassed Klopfenstein...

Klopfenstein made some nice blocks Sunday, I was shocked.

Exactly. Pittman has a higher, stronger potential than Minor and as TX said, he'll probably end up replacing him. But Leonard is well planned into the Rams offense -- he just needs some more time and a healthier OL to get the job done, either as a blocker or as a runner.

I was elated to see Pittman join the Rams (I agree, he's a steal). I hope he sees himself as being part of a powerful Rams running game trio: Jax and Leonard / Pittman.
