Haslett as coach
The most important thing the Rams must do- and this needs to be done the first week of the off season- is address their coaching situation. There seems to be this sentiment by many that Haslett is the man for the job, yet I've seen no evidence of why. He says all the right things, but after playing over their heads against Dallas, Washington and New England, they'e been non-competitive in every game (except Miami) and show no toughness. Their execution is horrific. And no one with half a brain can convince me they've played hard. Teams are a reflection of their head coach- and while granted, he's in a tough spot, I'm not impressed with the job Haslett has done. Contrast the Rams performance with that of the hated Niners, who have undoubtedly gotten better and are playing hard for Singletary. You mean to tell me the ***** have more talent?
Marty Schottenheimer and Bill Cowher are each rumored to go to Cleveland, where there will be a vacancy. You've gotta' think Marvin Lewis' job is on the line in Cincinnati. The Raiders job will be open. And I'm sure at least two or three other jobs will exist. The Rams will have to act fast to secure the coach that can take us away from this miserable football experience which is in its third season now and has reached embarrassing lows.
I certainly hope Chip Rosenbloom makes the right decision for this franchise, or it will be another horror show next year.

Re: Haslett as coach
Head coaching surely must be the first thing addressed after the season.
I for one, would love to see the Rams lure Bill Cower to come to Saint Louis and coach the team.
Haslett's not the answer![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Haslett as coach
Good point!
You know, I was reading a biography on former Commissioner Pete Rozelle. Pete became Commissioner in 1960 and oversaw the tremenduos growth and success that the NFL has had and continues to have to this day.
Rozelle was responsible for the AFL-NFL merger, National TV exposure, the concept of the Super Bowl and during his tenure, the NFL grew from 12 teams to 28 by the time he retired in 1989.
Pete Rozelle was the GM for the Los Angeles Rams before becoming the Commissioner on the National Fooball League.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Haslett as coach
We obviously need some one in the front office. The retards running the place right now could successfully run a free clinic into the ground. We need to fix this.
I know alot of people are wanting to get some of the better coordinators. But what makes us think that they will come here when they are doing a good job with their teams?
There are a few people on the board who want top end coaches, which we won't get. Cowher and Schottenheimer certainly won't come here.

Re: Haslett as coach
I like Brian Billick. I've been listening to him announce and I like the way he see's things.
I feel like we need an identify, and getting Shottenheimer or Cowher would be getting too much of a re-tred.

Re: Haslett as coach
Yes, Front office 1st.
Good Coordinators will come.....there are only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL.......most coordinators will forsake success with a good team as a coordinator for the chance to be a head coach for a bad team - the only thing to stop it is being named this "head coach in waiting crap" - like Jason Garrett(Dallas), Jim Mora(Seattle) and Jim Caldwell(Indianapolis).
No, your not getting Schottenheimer or Cowher.....one of them will go to Cleveland - I don't know about the other one. Cowher has first dibbs on any job he wants....

Re: Haslett as coach
If Rams keep Jim Haslett as head coach - then it is OVER!!! The guy is just a "loser" as a head coach in the NFL......
sorry to be so harsh but its true - if y'all keep Haslett - then you have no hope!

Re: Haslett as coach
Why do you say that?
Remember our last rookie head coach? Uhm...Linehan? Who rode this team to the ground? Yeah?
Falconator, I usually, if not, ALWAYS agree with you. But not this time.
The Haz was given Linehan's Rams team. Let him fix it up, players, coaches, etc. You will be looking at a better team.

Re: Haslett as coach
Haslett shouldn't be the coach for one simple reason -- we need someone who is not attached to the players on the roster who can do an honest and thorough evaluation of the players. Until we start weeding out the guys who cannot get it done on the field and get rid of *all* the knuckleheads that won't shape up, it doesn't matter how much football the coach knows. I think Haslett deserves another shot at HC, but I think its a bad move for us to hire him as our coach.
I agree with the earlier poster who mentioned Billick. As I posted on the coaching thread last week, the guy had a ton of success in Baltimore and showed flexibility in becoming a defensive oriented team because it fit his personnel. He's tough, he's got credibility (especially with free agents), and he's got experience turning over a roster.

Re: Haslett as coach
It seems like a recent trend around the league is to hire the popular coordinator. Maybe the team is looking for offense, so they try to hire Jason Garrett. Or maybe they are looking for defense, so they try to hire Steve Spagnola. But it seems to me that in recent years, the most successful coaches are those who almost won it all, but didn't, and they went on somewhere else and did win it all. Look at recent SB winning coaches... Vermeil, Bilicheat, Dungy, Coughlin, Gruden, Shanahan. I'm sure there are more, but those guys are the ones that I have seen win in my lifetime. Those guys all won with their second team, and did so relatively quickly in their tenure. With all that said, as unpopular as it may be, I want our Head Coach to be Jim Fassel, Offensive Coordinator to be Henry Ellard (WR coach), and Defensive Coordinator to be Brian Baker (DL Coach).
