Haslett is out with St. Louis Rams

Jim Haslett has been informed he will not be the Rams’ head coach in 2009.

He received a call Thursday afternoon from owner Chip Rosenbloom and general manager Billy Devaney.

Haslett declined comment.

There were also indications that the Rams might be making additional “cuts” in their coaching field as they zero in on their next head coach.

Just to follow up, profootball talk reported that the entire Rams coaching staff is going to be let go.

That tells me it will not be Ryan as head coach. I think it's time to welcome LF.

Nothing is official, but there were strong indications late Thursday afternoon that Jim Haslett has been informed he will not be the Rams’ head coach in 2009.

Sources from both inside and outside of Rams Park were under the impression that Haslett was told sometime in the afternoon that he would not be retained. Haslett could not be reached immediately for comment.
There were also indications that the Rams might be making additional “cuts” in their coaching field as they zero in on their next head coach.

Thanx for the info eauclaire, but what does the dismissal of the entire coaching staff have to do with Ryan not becoming the HC and LF getting the gig?

I don't wish anything bad to Coach Haslett, and wish him nothing but the best, but this was the best thing for the Rams, IMHO. ....okay, I'm excited a little because that probably also eliminates Martz from the equation.

Agree. I don't wish bad to any Rams ex-coach, but I do wish we could play against Haslett's defense every week.

Well, they may get the chance at least once next year if Haslett ends up in Green Bay I suppose.

I'm hoping that the reports of a total house cleaning are true and that they'll start fresh with a completely new coaching staff.

I guess there is one exception however. If they ever want to bring John Ramsdel back to be QB coach I'd be all for that.

I won't entirely believe this until I hear it from the Rams themselves. JT is probably the most reliable of the PD reporters but he's not an official spokesman.

As to eauclare's contention that a complete housecleaning, also unconfirmed, is an indication that Ryan is out of the running, kind of makes sense.

Can The Rams get an entire staff together without an official HC if Ryan can't be hired till after the SB? Maybe he can do it behind the scenes but wouldn't that be bending the rules considerably?

Of course, if The Ravens lose, the point is moot.

All the best to him. Mark my words, he will be VERY successful in Green Bay, if that is where he goes. Talented players on that D ...
