    help please, 1936 rams

Question for all of you internet research mavens. I need the game by game results for the 1936 rams, the AFL team that was the predecessor to the 1937 team that entered the nfl. Same owner, homer marshman, buzz wetzel was the head coach. I know the team went 5-2-1, but i need the actual results of each game for my files, especially the games against new york on nov 22 and brooklyn on november 8. If anyone has the nicknames of the new york and brooklyn teams, that would be great also. I think brooklyn was the dodgers and new york the yankees, but i am not sure.

Amigo Steve, great question! Challenging too... :\

For now, I just wanted to correct the standings at the end of what was considered the 1936 AFL season; yes, the Rams were already a part of this second time around, temporary (two-year, '36-37) league under the Cleveland name.

They finished 5-2-2. I've seen this result in a few places of reserach, one of which appears in the link below.

'Will check a couple of books on the game scores for that year that you're inquiring.

    GC,

The best I've been able to find is Steve Dimitry's Extinct Sports Leagues. His e-mail is (sdimitry@verizon.net), the web site shows the final standings for the 1936 season. The Cleveland Rams finished in 2nd place with 5-2-2 record. The Championship game between the Rams and Boston Shamrocks was called off, not sure why though. The Boston Shamrocks were declared the 1936 League Champion.

Hope this helps you find the individual game stats.

    Re: help please, 1936 rams

GC, as much as I regret throwing in the towel, I'll have to admit my limitations on this quest to find the scores for the Rams of the 1936-37 AFL. Specifically, for the 1936 season.

I've looked high and low, Internet, books (including the Total Football II Encyclopedia) as I'm sure you have too. 'Came close but, no. Only the 5-2-2 standings for that year and other minor but interesting information.

As I posted earlier, you came up with quite a challenging test!

thanks to everyone for their help. I was convinced that in the internet era, everything is available, but this is a really really tough one. I think the only way i am ever going to figure it out is to get my hand on cleveland newspapers from 1936.

Good idea, Stephen. The library microfiche is also a likely source. I admire your Rams diehard, collector's dedication.

When I was looking around while trying to help you, I did find some individual teams had results of their games vs the '36 Rams.. Redskins I believe were one of them.

Maybe by perusing the individual opp's sites you might find the results you need?
