Hill is preparing for uncertain role

    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Thursday, Sep. 11 2008
Burned on a couple of long passes and subsequently removed from the lineup,
cornerback Tye Hill on Sunday suffered through one of his darkest days in his
three NFL seasons. Hill got a pep talk from coach Scott Linehan on Wednesday
    morning.

"I told him, 'You're no different than a quarterback or a head coach. You're a
No. 1 draft pick, and when things go bad people are going to be on your back.
You've just got to practice better so you can play better,'" Linehan said. "And
he had a real good day" at practice.

After giving up 52- and 47-yard receptions, Hill was replaced by Fakhir Brown
early in the second quarter. Hill was limited to nickel-back duties thereafter
    in the 38-3 defeat.

Linehan said Hill "will be back in there" when the Rams host the New York
Giants on Sunday. His role, however, is undetermined. The Rams worked several
cornerback combinations Wednesday involving Hill, Brown and Ron Bartell.

"I'm going to be playing; it's just up in the air as to where," Hill said.
"It's a personal challenge; that's the way I approach it. I'm going to go out
and give it my best, have a great week of practice, prepare for the Super Bowl
champs, and hopefully have a great outing on Sunday."

    INJURY UPDATE

Guard Jacob Bell (hamstring), defensive end Leonard Little (hamstring) and
punter Donnie Jones (knee) sat out practice. Wide receiver Donnie Avery (knee)
and running back Travis Minor (thigh) were limited.

Leonard probably will miss Sunday's game; the prospects for the others are
undetermined. Jones' injury is a bruise to his nonkicking knee.

    BENNETT'S FOCUS

After 48 hours of "dealing with how frustrated I was, how disappointed I was,"
wide receiver Drew Bennett is trying to focus on his return. But it's not easy,
    he acknowledged.

"It's ridiculous that something like this happened. I trained a lot harder this
offseason to avoid things like this, and it still happens," said Bennett, who
    broke a bone in his left foot Sunday. "They told me four to six weeks;
hopefully it'll be the shorter end of that. As soon as three or four weeks are
up, where it's set and it's healed, I can see how it feels running around."

    RAM-BLINGS

After their Week 1 drubbing, the Rams are last in the NFL in total defense and
pass defense, and next-to-last in total offense and rushing offense. ... The
Rams haven't faced a defending Super Bowl champion in the regular season since
    2004.

Did Tye Hill just get bad all of a sudden. There trying out diffrent corner options.
Is this not what real team do during training camp.

The team needs new ownership now, or this will continue indefinately

I really like Tye Hill and feel bad that he's in this situation. I'm confident he'll bounce back because I certainly don't think he got bad all of a sudden, but had a bad game along with the rest of the D AND Haslett.

Personally, I thought the guy showed promise in his rookie year, but I thought he was pretty disappointing last season when he actually did play and last week was just horrible. He has a lot to prove.

Agree he did look promising his rookie season then miss half of last season. I thought they should have went another direction in that draft hum...... I wounder how we would have been if we would have taken Cutler.

Well, hindsight is 20-20, but I was actually hoping they would have drafted Cromartie with that pick. I prefer to have bigger corners because I just don't think small dbs can be physical enough. Cromartie is listed as 6-2, 203lbs and Tye Hill is 5-9, 185lbs. If you're going to play man, you need dbs that can match up with recievers- physically, I'm not sure if Hill is able.

It's sad that Hill is in this situation. I hope he bounces back. Everyone has a bad game, and I'll use that as of now. But if he screws up more often, then its time to move on. I can only hope he improves.
