Hirsch to enter Marine Corps Hall of Fame
Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch, a late Wisconsin football star and athletic director, was recently chosen to be inducted into the United States Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be July 29 in Quantico, Va.
Hirsch, who died Jan. 27, 2004, was stationed at Camp Pendleton before playing professional football for the Los Angeles Rams. Hirsch was also stationed at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, where he played football.
Hirsch played at Wisconsin in 1942, where he rushed for 786 yards and led Wisconsin to an 8-1-1 finish. Hirsch was the athletic director at Wisconsin from 1969-1987.
