Hmmmm, I think Saunders may have to go bye bye ....

FILM STUDY PAYS OFF FOR ALLEN
Posted by Mike Florio on December 1, 2008, 8:46 a.m.
Dolphins cornerback Will Allen made some significant contributions to his team’s 16-12 win over the Rams on Sunday.

Specifically, Allen called out several plays before they happened.

“How did you know that?” Allen said after the game, according to Dennis Dillon of Sporting News Today.

Reporters knew it because, during the Rams’ radio broadcast, sideline reporter Malcolm Briggs said that receiver Dane Looker came to the sideline and told the coaching staff it was happening.

But before anyone wonders whether Allen’s edge was the result of any Matt Walsh-style skullduggery, the reality is that Allen learned about the Rams’ tendencies from rolling up his sleeves and studying film.

“That’s what will does,” cornerback Andre Goodman said. “Have you ever prepared with Will during the week? He’s a film guy. He gives me tips all the time. He’s been doing it all year.”

The lesson for every team? You need to scout your own tendencies, and you need to change things up enough on a week-to-week basis to prevent other teams from figuring out what you’re going to do by comparing down-and-distance to your formations and pre-snap adjustments.

Frankly, we’d like to think that Rams offensive coordinator Al Saunders has been in the league long enough to realize the importance of doing that.

Ouch! That's a pretty harsh indictment of Saunder's playcalling if a player studying film can call out plays before they happen. Then what about the other teams' numerous scouts, assistants and coaches who have no doubt studied his tendencies even more in-depth than any player could find the time to do?

I doesn't surprise me that Looker sniffed it out and told the coaches, he always seems extremely well prepared mentally for every game and very alert on the field.

That is freaking embarassing. We're supposed to have this play book the size of the New York City phone book, and someone knows our plays? How?!

I think Saunders does need to go. Our throws only go three yards. I hate those plays!

Who knows, maybe its this season....

As much as I hate to say it, because I am all about keeping the youth movement alive, but I think we have got to lock up Looker in a long deal. Fact is, I'd rather have Looker than Holt at this point ...

Looker is over 30 years old, but he hasn't taken much punishment in his career. He showed a great ability to get open against Miami, and is a tough receiver that will go over the middle ...

Does he remind anybody else of Ricky Phroel?

And he is definitely smart. I saw him time and time again helping the rooks get into position against the 'Phins ...

But yes, it is a pretty sad state of affairs when Saunder's so called "complicated" offense can be sniffed out despite all the shifting and movement ...

I am surprised this is even being brought up now. For weeks on end Saunders has had the same play's like clock work. The Niner fans even knew what we were going to do. Now that is sad.

Totally reminds me of Ricky, and it does not surprise me he would notice such things on the field, he appears to be prepared to play and is giving 100% when asked to make a play. I agree we should lock him up for the next few years, although I don't know at this point if that's a reward or punishment.

    Yet, it's all Bulger's fault, right? :-)

Watching the game again, you can actually see Miami players just sitting in spots waiting for the ball ...

You guy's think I'm sensitive? Where did I mention Bulger?

Since you brought it up, I have been a huge supporter of Bulger, and my opinions of him in the last game will remain silent.

Cali, I love you, you know that!

It was sarcasm directed at the board, not you ... I know your stance on Bulger ....

Somebody needs to print that off and tape it to Saunders' office door.

Sticky notes to the forehead are so much more effective Nick. We are talking about our big play book guy here ya know. He may mistake it for one of his plays that he forgot to add to "said big play book", thus he will never get around to reading it.

    Just saying.

Saunder's and the rams quarterback coach need to go. Something seriously wrong when your back goes in there and performs the same or worse than your starter.

I agree w/ what someone said, keep Haslett and let him hand pick his own staff.

Bulger was staring down his recievers just like he does every game. You supporters can't blame the O-Line this week either because he had plenty of time. He stinks, plain and simple
