Holt to Participate in Quarterback Challenge
By Nick Wagoner
Staff Writer
Either Torry Holt can’t get enough television or television can’t get enough Torry Holt. Regardless, Holt is set to make yet another appearance on the small screen.
Just a few weeks after becoming the first active NFL player to appear on the main set of ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage, Holt is set to hit the airwaves again. This time, though, the only talking Holt will do is trash talking.
Holt is set to be one of four wide receivers competing in the 2005 NFL Quarterback Challenge in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Joining Holt are San Diego’s Keenan McCardell, New Orleans’ Joe Horn and Cincinnati’s Chad Johnson.
The quarterback challenge is an opportunity for signal callers from various teams to show off their abilities to throw and run. Holt and the other receivers will take part in the “No Huddle” event, which tests the quarterback’s ability to complete passes to the receivers in a timed activity.
The quarterbacks in the challenge are San Diego’s Drew Brees, Carolina’s Jake Delhomme, Detroit’s Joey Harrington, Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck, Jacksonville’s Byron Leftwich, Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer and Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger.
Legendary quarterbacks John Elway, Boomer Esiason, Dan Marino and Bernie Kosar will also participate in the event.
CBS will film the event on Friday at 10 a.m. in front of an audience of 1,000 students from local middle schools. It is scheduled to air on CBS on July 16-17.
QUICK HITS: The Rams released punter Kevin Stemke late last week, leaving rookie Reggie Hodges as the only punter on the roster. The possibility remains that St. Louis will bring another punter to compete in training camp.
Defensive lineman Brandon Green, who Jacksonville released in April, signed a one-year deal with the Rams. Green played in two games for the Jaguars, making three tackles. Green is 6’2, 264 pounds and entering his second season out of Rice

Torry Holt is getting very popular.
Hasselbeck should be happy. He will have some receivers that can actually catch the ball.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
