    Hoomanawanui To 'Skins Practice Squad

    Hoomanawanui to 'Skins practice squad

4 hours ago BY JIM THOMAS

Even though he played in eight games in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons for the Rams, including a total of 11 starts, tight end Michael Hoomanawanui still had practice squad eligibility.

After releasing Hoomanawanui from the active roster Sunday, the Rams had hoped to sign him to their practice squad. Instead, Hoomanawanui is taking the "change of scenery" route and is signing today with the Washington Redskins' practice squad according to league sources.

To free up a practice squad spot for Hoomanawanui, the Redskins released another tight end who was with the Rams this preseason _ undrafted rookie Deangelo Peterson.

A fifth-round draft pick by the Rams in 2010 out of the University of Illinois, Hoomanawanui had 20 catches for 229 yards and three touchdowns in his time with St. Louis.

Practice squad players work with the team in practice, but cannot appear in games.

Might work out for us we still have a spot open... for undrafted rookie Deangelo Peterson.

Very, very surprised to see he still has practice squad eligibility. I guess thats what happens when you spend all your time injured!

Things must have recently changed, as this was what I thought. Actually, I thought it was 6 games.

from Cam Merritt on eHow (quick google)
Players who have never been on any team's 53-man roster are eligible to serve on a practice squad, as are players who have been on a 53-man roster in only one season and for fewer than nine games. Any player with more service than that is ineligible. Further, players are limited to three total years on practice squads

I don't know. It could have changed with the new CBA. In any case, I liked the guy, even if I could hardly ever spell his name correctly. I wish him good luck, and maybe he can find a good spot behind Fred Davis over there.
    I believe!

The Patriots are expected to sign TE Michael Hoomanawanui to their 53-man roster if he passes a physical.

The Josh McDaniels connection strikes again. Hoomanawanui joined the Redskins' practice squad after getting waived by the Rams, but the Pats are in the market for more tight end depth behind Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The oft-injured "Big Mike" would slide in behind Daniel Fells as the No. 4 tight end. Visanthe Shiancoe (undisclosed) might be headed for injured reserve.

I stil can't see how he had practice squad eligibility.

It's not like he is going to get on the field much as the Pats 4th TE, but I suppose it's a better chance than being on the Reskins practice squad

I posted it in the Rams forum because the article noted the Rams wanted to sign him to their practice squad, so in that sense, it was Rams related.
