How is our starting HS on defense?
That's right, I said HS. We have one DE, two LBs, and a SS all set on D. That leaves 7 positions wide open....right? Actually, it leaves 8 open. Every top defense needs someone in the HS position.....that is Heart & Soul.
Think back to EVERY top-tier defense. They all had a field general, an emotional and strategic leader on the field. Look at the best of the best over the years:
2000 Ravens - Ray Lewis
1985 Bears - Mike Singletary
2005 Bears - Brian Urlacher
2002 Bucs - Lynch, Brooks, Sapp
1996 Packers - Reggie White
1970 Vikings - Carl Eller
1976 Steelers - Joe Greene, Jack Ham
Even take a look at us when our D has been on top:
1974, 1975 - Olsen, Youngblood, Robertsen
1967 - Olsen, Baughan, Deacon Jones
If this team has any, I repeat ANY chance of playing January football, someone will HAVE to step into that HS position. Pisa, Chavous, Spoon, Little......as of right now there is no clear choice.
By September.....there better be.

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
I think we need someone who has a little fun in between plays and pumps the players and the crowd, could be a horrible player who just forces everyone to have a little fun.

I agree with your assessment HUbison but I would add one DT also. I think Glover has as much leadership ability as any that you have mentioned if not more.

Glover, Tinoisamoa and if he's in the middle, it has to be spoon.
Chavous could be in with a shout but he seems more the cerebral type rather than an HS type. Need both of course.

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
It could be Pisa..I mean the guy just oozes passion just like Ray Lewis, its like when hes on the field he is a different guy and if the rest of the players see this and look into his eyes in the huddle I dont think theres anyway they cant be pumped up by it.
I know hes been there the last 3 years and it hasnt helped but with there being up to 6 or 7 new starters who havent been witness to it before,it could make a difference.

It would be Pisa Tinoisamoa!. In the Cowboys game, He was laughing at the end of every play, talking with the other Rams. Getting them pumped up! Its gotta be Pisa.

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
Hub, you just offended a lot of HS teams out there. But you are right we where so bad last year. I will go on record and say with the 7 new starters, new coaches and scheme “change is good”. I for one am looking forward to seeing a more aggressive scheme on defense. We have a good blend of youth and vet’s on this side of the ball, maybe one of the rookies will be the guy to breakout or maybe Spoon will become they guy. One thing is for sure this is not the same team on defense.

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
"HS" as in Heart & Soul, not High School.

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
Hargrove, though a young new player has the right attitude, He's my choice !

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
A HS leadership tandem between DT La'Roi Glover and LB Pisa Tinoisamoa. One a mature, confident 11 year veteran, the other a fired up, 4 year motivator.
I hope and trust this will be the source for the Rams HS on D. :ramlogo:

Re: How is our starting HS on defense?
I believe it was MF in '99. The HS can be on the O side. London was the closet thing we've had in the last decade on the D side. GW had his moments as a Ram...... My vote for this years HS is Bulger LOL.....
