Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
BigRedMan addressed this in another thread and I think it's a very legitimate point that I agree with. In an effort to make the transition from the Martz offense to the Linehan offense, elements of both systems have been incorporated. While this strategy had the intent of making the transition smoother, I think the opposite has happened.
I think it's possible that our players on the field are still thinking in Martz terms first, then trying to translate into Linehan terms, THEN trying to execute. Along the way, things are getting lost in that attempted translation.
Let's face it, our skill players still know how to play football at a high level and are capable of doing the things they've done in the past. That I have no doubt of, but what used to look automatic and intuitive now seems like an analytical process that's causing periodic confusion.
IF this is a factor however, and I'm absolutely theorizing here, I'm not sure much can be done at this point. It's probably just something the players will have to work their way through.

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
I agree with the theory, and it actually makes perfect sense. Obviously, regardless, the team is confused at this point. But it's something they'll overcome in time to come. I am hopeful that this year they get comfortable with it, but my heart is saying, our year comes next year... :sad face:
But hey, if that means we do bad this year (It's a transition year anyways, that doesn't mean we'll do bad, but we do we expect from transition years?), I am willing to wait till next year for our team to truly explode and be a playoff contender, possibly a superbowl winner, I'm willing to wait a year or two for that to happen, and we all know with the talent we got, that could definitely happen in a year or two.

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
Well, V6, we'll see. I understand your opinion of the Rams potential -- and your patience too! One more year of experience for our team should certainly produce better defined goals and objectives as well as yield higher probabilities of succeeding.
Perhaps it is my inner voice of 'fandom', I'm not sure (despite the decades of having gone through very similar Ramtransitions), but so far, given the talent we have and even the unproven talent, I think we have a very good and legitimate shot at being a "contender". Okay, for the playoffs! Okay, wild card!
I think it was Will Witherspoon* that said this was one of the reasons he opted for the Rams THIS year.
We'll see.

10-4, my friend! That's why I'm (ssshhhh... *whisper* believing) that we can stand up to Arizona, Frisco and Seattle this year.
Let's start with our first visit to the Cards new stadium!

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
Didn't Martz try this type of approach with the defense when Lovie Smith left and Marmie came in. Try to keep some of Lovies system in, with the same type of terminology, while learning Marmies system. This didn't work out so good for two years until finally Martz/Marmie were canned. That was not the only reasons obviously, but the learning curve for those years was and would have been longer than it would have been with the installation of a whole new approach. For a great example ..... see Haslett's defense of 2006. Yes it's early I know, proof won't be determined until week eight if it's been a complete success.

They need to run the old offense.

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
They need to run the old offense ...... I 100 percent agree but there's only one problem Martz is in detroit now detroit has our offense but doesn't have the pieces of the puzzle to make it work ie. Bruce holt bulger kurtis mcdonald jackson.............

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
The Martz offense is a thing of the past, it's gone. In hindsight, it may have been a better idea to strip everything down and start from scratch with Linehan's system, but it would probably be counterproductive to try that now.
It's interesting that Ike, who has transitioned through more than a few different offenses, looks the most comfortable and effective executing whatever their doing out there.

Re: Hybrid Offense Not Making Things Easy
I am telling you guys...they need to figure out that Klop is part of this offense in 2 and 3 receiver sets. This will help this thing getting rolling. I am starting to wonder though if Klop might be part of the problem, as he is so young and inexperienced. It is so hard to see what the tight-end is doing on TV.
