I just came across this stat and it amazed me...

Lance Kendricks; 42 catches 519 yards 4 tds

Jared Cook: 44 catches 523 yards 4 tds

What does this stat say to you guys? Opinions?

My view on this stat is three parts.

    1) Lance Kendricks still has a tremendous amount of upside that we can tap into.

    2) Jared Cook was underutilized last season.

    3) We can use both of these guys to create mismatches in the middle of the field.

I second both of your assessments! Kendricks and Cook can really turn out to be a dynamic duo.

How does a stat line determine someone was under utilized?

Lance Kendricks had a terrific 2nd half last season. Things were really beginning to come together for him.

Standing alone, it doesn't. However, it was reprorted that Cook was on the field for only about 56% of the Titans' offensive plays when he was active. I suspect that number will be much higher with the Rams.

I Should of added the amount of snaps they both played last year as well.

    Cook - 473 snaps

    Kendricks- 786 snaps

still have no idea why the titans didn't use cook more...he could have almost hit 1,000 yards receiving if he was used even as much as kendricks

Cook was used more in the passing game then Lance. Lance was targeted 64 times and Cook was targeted 72 times. Lance was on the field for more snaps but used more to protect.

My hope is with Jake Long and possibly another starter from the draft, both TEs will be used in the passing game and not be used to block as much.

On the other hand, we have lost Steven Jackson, who is one of the better pass blocking RBs in the league. I think one of our young RBs would really have to step up in that department, for Kendricks to be used more in the passing game.

That's true SJ was awesome on the blitz pick up no doubt. We could have both Cook and Lance on the field at the same time, where one could line up in the backfield and stay in to protect. Even on that play at least one TE will have a chance to get out and catch pass.

That's is going to be an issue with the two smaller backs through.

Hopefully Terrance Ganaway makes the team and if so, will be used as a blocker -- learning from the role that Jax played in protection schemes.

I know it's way too early to say but I like the Kendricks & Cook "possible potental"[!?!].

That's the stat I was looking for, but honestly, it's not the way I wanted to see it.

Near identical production, but Cook was actually targeted MORE than Kendricks.

I really hope this can be pushed off on QB play or scheme. Because knowing that Kendricks produced more than Cook with less opportunities is rather unsettling.

The stat you actually want is Routes Run. Then you'd get a better comparison between the two. Just because Kendricks was targeted 64 times doesn't mean he was blocking on every other snap. A stat like targets per routes run would be more indicative of their contribution in the passing game.

Lets take a larger sample to see the production difference.

    Last two years.

    Lance Kendricks
    GP 31 REC 70 TGTS 123 YDS 871 TD 4

    Jared Cook
    GP 29 REC 93 TGTS 154 YDS 1282 TD 8

I think it's fair to say if the Rams use Cook and get him 125 TGTS he can get 1000 yards 8 TDs.

I agree with TheBritishRam, that TGTS only is not the complete picture.
