Re: I Know this sounds RIDICULOUS but what if...

Well, at least you know it sounds ridiculous.

The Rams have seemingly made it clear that they're not pursuing Vincent Jackson any further. You can't really blame them, given the massive compensation that seems to be demanded for a player who is one off the field incident away from a full year's suspension.

As for Steve Smith, he's on the wrong side of 30 (31 to be exact) and is currently injured. The salary on the final three years of his deal are massive and unappealing; the Rams would want new terms in place in order to take him on, and I doubt he'd be inclined to take a pay cut to play for a new team.

So I'll simply say thanks but no thanks to this scenario.

If Smith were willing to restructure to a one year deal, it would be perfect.

For one, the no salary cap this year means the only person that paying bookoo bucks to a WR past his prime would affect is Stan E. Kronke.

For two, after this year, we won't need Steve Smith, because Donnie Avery will be coming back and fulfilling the role that Steve will undertake, ie the deep threat.

Finally, it would be good for SS, because he would get to show that he can still produce in the league, and attract FA suitors.

Of course if Steve Smith is getting paid as much as I suspect he is for three more years, I doubt he would want to flush two years down the drain.

By the way, I was thinking about this during class. If we somehow miraculously obtain VJ and resign Mark Clayton, we would, imo, have one of the best wide receiver corps in the league next year.

    VJ- Number One WR
    Mark Clayton- Big Possession Receiver.
    Donnie Avery- Deep Threat
Danny Amendola- Wes Welker Jr. Stud in the Slot
Mardy Gilyard- Big Play (still waiting on it) Slot Player.

Oh and we still have Steven Jackson teams have to key on.

Come on, if that doesn't light your fire your wood is wet.

Hardly. Clayton has done a decent job for us, but there's a reason why the Ravens were willing to part with him. Here's another way to think of it:

    Suspended
    Injured
    Injured
    Amendola
    Rookie

Also, note I said one of the best. What the Vikings are gonna have when Sidney Rice gets back is ridiculous. Also the Jets are putting together a nice corp with Holmes, Edwards, and Keller.

But man, you can't argue that Sam wouldn't be licking his chops throwing to VJ, Clayton, Donnie, and Danny.

As opposed to Danny, Gibson, Robinson, and Gilyard.

Right, because injuries never, ever affect future production, and guys who get suspended never, ever get suspensions later in their careers. With or without Jackson, our receiver corps is going to be full of question marks next season.

It's always been my understanding that a receiver must be able to catch the ball...this would rule Berrian out.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!

If thats the case, I guess Drew Brees, Wes Welker, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, and numerous, numerous, numerous other players who have all had season ending injuries should have never came back and played.

Also why are the Eagles even bothering with Michael Vick, he is just going to be suspended again.

Everything I have read or heard about VJ is that he is sorry for his mistakes and won't do it again.

I have made mistakes, I regretted them, I was punished, and I put them behind me and never made them again.

Sure VJ did it twice, but you get three strikes in baseball...

Questions don't automatically have the same answer every time for every player regardless of context. Some come back from injuries well, some don't. In Warner's case, he came back, but it took about five years. Ask the Falcons how well it paid off to give Vick second chances. Sometimes you take risks, but you usually don't want to put down a big investment upfront when the risks are high if you can avoid it. Jackson or Smith would mean big money, and Jackson would mean picks, too. Not worth it.
