I need a reality check from some S.L.O.P. members

Looking back, Mike Martz left a lot of holes to fill on this football team. The new era under Linehan has had two drafts and two FA markets to rebuild. I am always looking through rose-colored glasses and believe we are headed in the right direction. How do members of the Scott Linehan Opposition Party see it?

SLOP never really had a beef with Linehan's offseason moves. It was more an issue of his gameday coaching. Things did seem to improve last year when he gave up the playcalling duties to Olsen and the O line solidified with the surprising play of Romberg and Setterstrom.

I'm happy with this offseason, and I think the team now has the talent to go places.

For Linehan, that presents a challenge. If the team succeeds, SLOP will no longer exist. However, if the team does not progress, the spotlight will have to be on Linehan and his staff.

I, for one, am optimistic. But, then again, I'm always optimistic in May.

To amplify a bit on Av's point, its hard to argue with the sheer genius of picking up two promising young offensive line starters in the 7th round and off the waiver wire.

I feel that anyone can see that our team is heading in the right direction. I am very confident that we will see an improvement from 2006 to 2007.

    1. Scott Linehan and Jim Haslett are no longer 1st year Headcoach and Defensive Coordinator, respectively. That has to be worth something. The players from last years team that are back for 2007 should feel alot more comfortable with the new systems from 2006 that had been put in place.

    2. The free agents and draft picks during this off-season have addressed most of the weak areas from 2006.

It's very hard not to be wearing the rose colored glasses, I know I am.

I'm looking forward to a very exciting and winning season.

I searched out this "S.L.O.P" thing you speak of. I see no disloyalty in the herd for speaking such moo-ving thoughts.

Based on the statements Scott Linehan made with free agency acquisitions and a productive draft, I can only repeat the things I heard in the cow pies: The Rams shall prevail.

I still find it a little wierd that Jim Haslett is on our team. How the heck did that happen? I still have high hopes for him and would expect any defense under his direction to get better the second year.

But seems like teams that are bad in one area can't seem to get it fixed. The bears offense will not become great next year no matter what offseason moves and draft picks they get. They will be mediocre on offense. I don't think we will be that improved on defense based on getting a few new defensive players. How many teams added some new defensive players in the draft and in FA? Our safety's are average at best, and same with our LB's. Our D' line is full of hopefuls. Our CB's are our defensive strong point.

I think the bright side is that we may be even more productive on offense this year, which will take pressure off the defense, and will make them better. And special teams should give us better field position on both sides. Not to mention that we should be better within our own system after a year to work in it.

Just don't like when most of the "If's" on our team are the same one's that just about any team has. ("If" our young guys get better next year and "if" our draft picks pan out, etc...)
