I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
1) Apparently - he's being let go from Cleveland, (where he was fairly successsful), because they are switching to a 3-4.
2) He played free safety in the NFL, and he was a punt returner.
3) he was a (unsuccessful) head coach. Never a bad thing.
(Plus, who HAS been sussessful in Buffalo since Levy)?;)
Good enough for me.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
I believe he also flamed out as a HC in Chicago. Which shouldn't disqualify him as a DC for us. For me the sad part is I remember him as a player, you might too...meaning we've been around for a while.
Go Rams!
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
It is so very difficult to assess assistant coaches/coordinators becase there are so many variables that go into judging their performance. Sometimes coaches coach in less-than-ideal situations and their success isn't shown in the won-loss column. On the flip side, sometimes coaches appear successful yet are beneficiaries of great personnel. Team defensive/offensive rankings are often misleading and don't tell the whole story.
Dick Jauron is a football lifer, starting out as a player in the 70's where he had a decent career. He has not been a successful head coach and has had mixed success as a coordinator. His best years were under Tom Coughlin when the Jaguars went to the playoffs 3 times in the mid 90's. He is respected enough, however, that he has found steady work as an assistant coach for a half dozen teams in the league. Personality-wise, he is the polar opposite of Rob Ryan- reserved and maybe even a little bland.
Past head coaching success means very little when it comes to being a quality assistant on a football team. Mike White (15-17) and Frank Gansz (8-22) both were failed head coaches in the league but contributed to our 1999-2000 SuperBowl Championship. Even Dick Vermeil was 63-68 heading into that dream season.
I have no idea if Jauron will be hired and don't know if he'd be a good fit for the Rams. Again, I have to place my trust in Fisher, who I'm confident will make the right decision.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
NJ that's sums it up for me as well. I thought it was interesting that Fisher had Rob meet with the staff and then said thanks but no thanks to Rob. Fisher will get it right.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
I don't know much about the guy, but if he can make the Browns look good on defense, imagine what he can do with you know....actual talent.
And he runs a 4-3, if he's interested, I say bring him in. Makes more sense than Rob Ryan with the personnel the Rams have.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
Again I'm with the fisher we trust mojo. Also, even though lovie said he is taking a year off, I wonder if we can some how get him.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
Just realised for the first time that Dick Jauron and Dick LeBeau are two entirely different people.
Re: I only know three things about Dick Jauron...
Well in a previous post I brought up the Mike Singletary card--likely will not get favorable responses to the suggestion. But considering how the division has changed with the Read Option/Pistol and etc. The Rams need to be more physical and have a DC that will bring that out in their defense. Hense why I brougth Singletary up--much of the creation of the 49whinners current "D" is his doing. Further since the Rams are a 4/3 "D"...it might not be a bad idea to run varients of the 46Defense--which obviously Singletary played in.
Anyhow just an idea....
