If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Some franchises have statues outside their stadium depicting the ultimate franchise player (i.e. Michael Jordan outside the Bulls' arena).
If the Rams were to build a statue, who would you want to be the model, and why?
My vote:
Jack Youngblood. A career Ram in the Hall of Fame, Jack is the epitome of NFL tough guys. His 201 consecutive games and refusal to sit in the 1979-80 playoffs and Super Bowl despite a broken fibula are the stuff of legend.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
we thats a good question Av but remember one big problem.
Its in St Louis.
Like it or not that would be a major concideration in this thing.
Taking the above into concideration I would think that either
Marshall Faulk in the pose of his cross hands TD celebration or
Ricky Proell as he caught the NFC championship TD pass
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Jim Hanifan. He had successful ties to both the Big Red and the Rams

You could almost pick Ricky Proehl for the same reason. The Cards drafted him just two seasons after the move to the desert.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Well, if you want a player who bridges the L.A. - St. Louis gap, the best choice would be Isaac Bruce.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
I don't think there is one individual that best defines the entire franchise. The Bulls had an easy choice with Jordan. A couple of blocks over from the ED, Busch stadium has a Stan Musial statue, that too is an easy choice for the Redbirds. But I don't know that there is that one character that completes engulfes the Rams. There may have to be a dozen or more statues outside the ED in order to paint a proper picture.

I have a couple of nominees that would represent the RAMS well:
Merlin Olsen
Deacon Jones
Marshall Faulk
and yes, Kurt Warner
Actually, one of the Fearsome Foursome would be pretty cool!
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
I like the Fearsome Foursome idea.
Another one, for the historical perspective - how about Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsh?
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Wow...this is a TOUGH ONE.
Since the Rams franchise has existed in three different cities (I know, the first one really didn't go anywhere but L.A.), how about a statue depicting one great player from each incarnation of the Rams? Start with Fred Gehrke. After all, he was the guy who put the Ram's horns on the helmets. (I would also settle on Bob Waterfield...the first rookie to win a championship...well, I guess the horns showed up in L.A., so we better go with Waterfield..) Maybe for the middle years in L.A., how about Roman Gabriel? Wasn't he the NFL MVP in 1969?
And lastly, the final figure MUST be someone from the Superbowl team. One image will ALWAYS stick in my memory. That being Kurt Warner holding up the trophy...and the fact that this was our only SB win, I feel this is the ONLY appropriate image for the third statue.
I can see it now...Waterfield on the left, Gabriel on the right, and KW in the middle, trophy held high.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
If there has to be only one then that has to be Warner. I say build 53 of them.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
How about one of Georgia since she brought the Rams to STL?
(wait, I see a red flag.....we will go to the screen)
...........................................
"Upon further review, tx was just kidding. There will be no statue of Georgia. tx is charged a timeout."
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Um.... no.
How about in the restrooms they can have the Kyle Turley and Eric Crouch diaper changing stations?
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
How about in the restrooms they can have a picture of Kyle Turley in each of the urinals instead of a bullseye.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Avenger, this is one fitting Raminquiry (very surprised it does not come w/poll)! :helmet:
Excellent posts and suggestions. I too agree in the comprising idea of having a Ram from each city. Therein the challenge, as always the case for blue-blooded fans.
I'd like to see ... ??? ... :upset:
Cleveland: Bob Waterfield,
L.A.: The Roman General -- Gabriel,
St. Louis: Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk or Isaac Bruce.
Re: If the EJD were going to build a Ram statute, who should be the model?
Jack Youngblood is my favorite Ram,But I pick Merlin Olsen,Because he went to the Pro Bowl 14-15 times, only matched by Mathews in Atlanta.Jackie Slater also needs to be considered.
