If Faulk retires, would the rams....

If Faulk retires, will the rams retire number 28? I can not imagine any other ram in that number ever again, but of course, i am not objective on this topic.

Thoughts from the group?

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

With the retirement announcement the orginization should also announce their plans to retire 28 and induct him into the ring of Honor.

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

The question is "Why wouldn't they?" Marshall Faulk is one of the greatest Rams in the history, and one of the greatest Running Backs in the history of football.

Faulk Career highlights:
* 12,279 rushing yards
* 136 total touchdowns
* 100 rushing touchdowns
* 6875 receiving yards
* 1382 rushing yards and 1048 receiving yards in 1999
* 7 seasons over 1000 yards rushing
* 3 Offensive Player of the Year awards
* NFL MVP in 2000
* Cover of Madden 2003 video game

In order to go onto the Ring of Fame, Marshall must first become a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That would occur 5 years after his retirement, at the soonest.

Quote:
The ring, displayed inside the Dome, features 13 players who have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and who played the majority of their careers with the Rams or Cardinals.

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

Personally, I don't like retiring numbers. I prefer the idea of a Ring of Honor, where players are recognized but their number isn't restricted from future use. After all, we have a limited amount of numbers available for use. I just feel removing a number from use in order to recognize a player is unnecessary.

That said, if Faulk's tenure on the Rams ends on good terms, I think his number probably will get retired.

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

Its at the DOME, a ring of past Ram names (and I hate to say this, a couple or cards as well)

Anyone who has been to the dome would have seen them

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

dickerson played for the rams 4 years and then demanded to be traded after we wouldnt pay him what he wanted. Was he the critical component in winning us a superbowl? No. Great player, but he failed to do for the rams what faulk did, and faulk has done it for longer.

Re: If Faulk retires, would the rams....

"Ring of Honor" absolutely, retiring # 28 not sure. To me retiring a number is for MANY years of outstanding service. Bruce yes, Faulk, not enough years with the team.
