"IF" Linehan fails.

Let's say Scott Linehan doesn't survive his 3rd season as our Headcoach. Who or whom do we go after?

Re: "IF" Linehan fails.

Fox would be a good choice, as would Spagnuolo. I also think Al Saunders should be on the list, particularly if the Rams' offense really responds to him.

Agreed. Saunders would be a natural in house move and Fox is a solid EXPERIENCED head coach. don't know much about spagnuolo so i can't comment on that one.

But in addition to the above guys, it'd also be worth looking over to Chicago to see if they're still lovin' Lovie. He's stuck his neck out for the qb over there and if Gross boy sux it up yet again, along with their defense struggling, Lovie could be on his way out. It'd probably be a good idea to give Pete Carroll a phone call too, even tho he'd probably just laugh at zygmunt.

...and if anybody says Nick Saban, they deserve to be exiled to the Seachicken clan...

Re: "IF" Linehan fails.

"If" Linehan fails? "If"?

Was anyone listening to the players at the end of last season?

I know, I know...there's the SLOP manifesto...

If you're into the thinking that as fans, you have to support what we're given....

Yeh...Linehan is a better coach that Saunders....

No wait...We should keep Linehan instead of pursuing Cowher...

Stop it...really...you guys are killing me....

Re: "IF" Linehan fails.

I like a lot of the candidates already mentioned here. Some, i don't. Ultimately, i want a head coach with these basic qualities:

1. Has a pulse. (this would be an immediate improvement)
2. Has POSITIVE leadership skills. ( or any leadership skills) I'm easy here.
3. Earns the respect of his players and coaches.
4. Has the ability to "sell" his "program" to his players, coaches and fans.
5. Exhibits a passionate desire to WIN! (haven't seen this since Dick Vermeil. (tears are optional)

Cowher could fit. Not likely to happen, though. I think Cowher's first N.F.L. coaching return interest lies with Carolina. If Fox gets bumped, he's there. That would leave Fox available. However, i'm not that thrilled about Fox. But wait, there's more. Cowher's daughter will attend Penn State this year and it's rumored that he's been talking a lot with the athletic department. And having overnight stays.
Could Cowher take over the head coaching duties for the Nittany Lions and free up Joe Paterno?! If that happens then i vote for JoePa!
Think about it! He meets all of the qualifications! Plus he has 50+ years of coaching experience. And at 81 years old he still has more "football" life in his veins than Linehan will ever have! Linehan couldn't hold Paterno's "Depends"! Come on everybody; JoePa! JoePa! JoePa! JoePA!..............

I'm a hugh Penn State fan, but JoePa will never coach in the NFL. Once he retires from Penn State, he will be finished coaching. I like Cowher but I don't see that happening either.

I see Saunders or Fox as our next coach.

So are you sold on Fox as a better head coach than Linehan? Are you ready to declare Saunders as a better probability head coach?

Dude, JoePa will probably finish breathing before he finishes coaching PSU.

Re: "IF" Linehan fails.

IF the Rams underperform, and the Office feels it's time to go......

1. Saunders
2. Haslett
3. Some Coordinator looking a shot
4. Some re-tread looking for a 2nd shot

That's not what I want to see, but being realistic. This is not an attractive organization for an experienced and successful head coach to walk into. Nor has that been the MO of this franchise. Look at the last 5 HCs. The last two HCs have been in category 3, two of the three before them were in category 4. And the other was Rich Brooks, yikes!.

But Brooks aside, maybe that is our best shot at garnering an experienced successful head coach.......pulling in a top notch college coach. It's risky (see Brooks, Spurrier, Petrino), but it's an option.

I'm also a Penn State fan but Paterno barely even coaches in PSU. He's more like a figurehead right now. After he's done his time with Penn State, he'll retire for sure.
