If the Rams hire a real GM .. Who will it be?

Shaw purportedly has indicated he is leaning toward hiring a GM who would oversee personnel decisions. The names of Tom Donohoe and Floyd Reese have been bandied about by Bernie and Jim Thomas as candidates. Floyd being the guy who hired Jeff Fisher for the Titans apparently ended up at odds with Jeff. Tom D. is said to be a close friend of Ziggy's .. The "close friend" bit doesn't sound overly appealing to me, but what do I know? (Please folks it isn't necessary to answer that -- merely a rhetorical question). Anybody have suggestions for a GM other than the aforementioned names? I am all ears as I believe bringing in a true football guy/GM would be an upgrade over what we have now.

I'd like to see Cowher become a GM eventually, not sure if he is ready yet, but we'd would have no troubles at the draft if that happened.

Re: If the Rams hire a real GM .. Who will it be?

Savage of Cleveland, Pioli of the Pats and Reese. This is the name I suggested in my open letter to Shaw. I'm sure he never read it, but I would take any of the three.

any reason why savage or pioli would come to us over staying where they are?

To work for the Rams would be a dream come true for anyone of us,but dont see why it would be for any of them two, unless a move back to L.A was on the cards...

I believe Donahoe was GM for the Steelers in the 90's and he got a team to the SB.I think he was also with the Eagles for a shot time and helped their turnaround.

In 1989 thru 1990 he was the Steelers' director of pro personnel, and from 1991 thru 99 he was director of football operations. He also wanted Kevin Gilbride over Bill Cowher as a head coach, but Rooney overruled him and chose Cowher. His evaluation of player talent appears to be pretty good but his coaching choices have been less than stellar. Might not matter though as Shaw would probably retain last say over who the head coach would be anyway ...
