If Vet TE available - would you cut Byrd

There seems to be a lot of vet TE's floating around. Tampa Bay just picked up Jolley and might cut someone like Brecht (could but not likely). If a vet TE is available after cuts, do you sign one since the Rams have no vet TE's, and hope Byrd makes it through waivers to the practice squad (and admitting a bit that trading up to draft Byrd was probably a mistake)? Or do you stick with the hand you chose?

i'm under the impression that linehan utilizies the TE in many of his formations and often...so, i wouldn't be surprised if linehan carries 4 TE's during the regular season, including byrd...

I don;t think Byrd is a mistake. The guy is a good receiver, he just needs to work on his blocking.

Klopfenstein and Walker will do an adequate job. The offense is probably going to struggle for a while before it gains some steam.

Even if you brought in a vet TE, it would still take him some time to get adjusted to the new offense.

Klopfenstein had a nice catch tonight, have not seen him as much I wanted, hope it's not due to poor blocking.

Byrd will make some plays in the red zone for us.

Isn't Walker a vet TE?

From second #1 I thought drafting Byrd was a mistake. He may turn out to be a brilliant TE, but I wouldn't have spent a high pick for him after drafting Klop, who also may turn out to be great... only time will tell. The team should have shopped for one a long time ago, and possibly used the 3rd as trade material.

That being said, time has passed and as Ramman said if you bring in a good new guy, he still has to learn the system. How much more would he contribute to the team this season than Byrd? I think the coaches know best.

So, I don't know. If a great TE is available, sure, but if he is so-so, then maybe not. The team doesn't need more variation.

Re: If Vet TE available - would you cut Byrd

My probability and/or wish: J. Collins substituting D. Byrd at TE. Can't say Byrd was or is a "mistake" but just keep thinking that Collins has made a decent preseason impression, plus his (relative) experience of being with the Rams last year, learning.

I hope.

Re: If Vet TE available - would you cut Byrd

If you bring in a vet TE, then you carry four into the season. Byrd is not going to get cut.

That being said, watch for what happens with Anthony Becht in Tampa. He's a quality blocking tight end that could be cut after the Bucs acquired Doug Jolley.
