Re: Im glad we didnt spend tons of picks trading up for Hawk
its not even that, it just wouldn't be worth it, especially with what we got. I'd much definitely have all the guys we got, rather than a stupid pick like Hawk, and waste all the rest of the picks away. Hawk, don't get me wrong is great, but for US, not worth it.

Yeah we had too many holes really to consider trading off the entire draft for one player. Plus what if he didnt work out?

Re: Im glad we didnt spend tons of picks trading up for Hawk
Agree 100% tx. The key with trading for hawk was a hope that he slipped past 5 to say 7 or 8. I never said i would give up two 1's for him, and certainly the trade down may affect our value proposition over time. Only time will tell whether hawk is worth more than ty hill, klopfenstein and wroten, which at the end of the day is what we got with our 1 and 2 picks. I will say this, i would rather have the three guys we got than just huff.

Which would require us to go somewhere around 4-12 this year. Maybe it's just me, but No Thanks.

Stupid? We have the luxury now of knowing the alternative to trading up. A week ago, I don't recall many people if any saying that trading up for Hawk would be stupid if the price was reasonable.

Nick, what I meant to say was that knowing what we got now from the draft, I'd say NOW that it would've been stupid, because we got so many good players, why waste it for just one? I think we got a few steals, and I think overall the draft was a really big success. Would you have traded our draft that we had for Hawk? (even at a reasonable price, which we all know, wouldn't be a reasonable price)

Re: Im glad we didnt spend tons of picks trading up for Hawk
Well for one, there's no scenario where the Rams would have traded every single draft pick to the Packers to get Hawk, so comparing our entire draft to one player doesn't work at all. But there are a number of ways it could work out where we have a great draft even had we traded up for Hawk.

The only reason someone can sit here and call it stupid is because our draft worked out. But there's no reason our draft woudn't have also worked out had we made this move. Which means it wouldn't have been a stupid move, but just a different one, IMO.

Re: Im glad we didnt spend tons of picks trading up for Hawk
The bottom line is this, if you go into the draft thinking logically you would probably come to the conclusion that the Front Office did. And that is, that no one player in this draft, who has never played a down of PRO football, is worth the price it would've taken to move from 11 to 5.
Assuming everybody plays to their potential, there is no way AJ Hawk could match the production of 3 players in the long run.

Re: Im glad we didnt spend tons of picks trading up for Hawk
I'm not even sure that's true. There were reports via NFL Radio during the draft that the Rams were in talks with Green Bay to try and trade up. Whether it was for Hawk or Davis, it's hard to say. But it was reported via radio the Rams did in fact try to move up.
