Atogwe back, Bartell sits again

Thursday, December 9, 2010

Free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (shoulder) returned to practice Thursday, albeit on a limited basis. But cornerback Ron Bartell (neck) missed his second consecutive day as the St. Louis Rams continued preparations for Sunday's game against the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

With Bartell, it's a matter of regaining the strength in the neck and shoulder area after a reoccurring stinger in last week's game with Arizona. If Bartell can't go, Quincy Butler is the likely starter against the Saints' third-ranked passing offense.

Also sitting out Thursday's practice were running back Kenneth Darby (ribs), cornerback Justin King (shoulder), and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (ankle). If Darby can't go Sunday, undrafted rookie Keith Toston would spell Steven Jackson in the backfield.

Besides Atogwe, safety Craig Dahl (knee) and cornerback Jerome Murphy (hamstring) were limited Thursday.

In New Orleans, former University of Illinois running back Pierre Thomas was full participation once again on Thursday as he attempts to return to game action after missing nine contests with an ankle injury.
