Its just so crazy it might work...

Coach Linehan likes to use the phrase "we'll put the best people on the field."

Well, I'm not sure we're doing that on defense right now. So, in the interest of providing a knee-jerk, overreacting, off-the-cuff response that nonetheless might have some merit, allow me to suggest this line-up for the Rams' defense that I think would do a better job of stopping the run than the one we're currently using.

DE: Leonard Little
NT: Adam Carriker
DT: Clifton Ryan
DE: James Hall
SLB: Brandon Chillar
MLB: Chris Draft
WLB: Will Witherspoon
CB: Tye Hill
CB: Ron Bartell
SS: Pisa Tinoisamoa
FS: O.J. Atogwe

On passing downs, I'd make a few adjustments, but I think that could be the best run stopping option we have.

I agree about Ryan and carriker up front. I think Glover should only come in on passing downs and to give these guys a breather.

A basic 4-4 package would be the way to go. Well done AV.

Re: Its just so crazy it might work...

Avenger, I wouldn't mind seeing that line up at all (with the exception of Pisa playing SS on any down.) I also wouldn't mind see Victor trying his hand at the nose or under tackle position as a possible backup now that i'm a little more comfortable with our DE's.

I'm not real confident with Pisa in the secondary.

Re: Its just so crazy it might work...

I agree that we don't want Pisa to be put in a lot of pass coverage situations. What I have in mind is more of an "in the box" SS who would play on running downs. On passing downs, I'd rotate Chavous into that spot.

Re: Its just so crazy it might work...

The best way to stop the run. Keep their O on the sideline, Maybe we can have a drive of 9 plays, not three and out!

AV I would have Clifton Ryan at NT.

I'm going to try this lineup on madden! lol

For real though I love the idea of moving Draft to MLB and putting Will back at his old spot. Didn't Draft play MLB for Carolina when Morgan got hurt? And he led the team in tackles. Couldn't hurt, call Linehan!

Obviously, Claude Wroten hasn't been impressing anyone.

That's an interesting front. What have you seen from Ryan that makes you believe he'd be a better three technique than both Glover and Wroten? If you wanted to get him into the line-up, I'd say put him on the nose and move Carriker to the UT position. I think that's an easier case to make than putting Ryan above those two.

This actually looks quite good, assuming Chillar maintains the level of play he was at this weekend.

As you've already pointed out, Pisa @ SS would have to be a run package. We'd still need someone for passing downs, which would likely still be Chavous. I don't think Carter has progressed enough to warrant passing him.

Re: Its just so crazy it might work...

Didn't we actually try moving Pisa to safety back in the wild Martz days? As I recall, it didn't work out well. But I agree that lineup really doesn't look that bad even if Carriker/Ryan would mean no pass rush up the middle.

Re: Its just so crazy it might work...

I think we might need someone else at DE the ones we have now seemed to get sucked in and sealed against the run on Sunday
