Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
We have the lesser strength of schedule and we win the #2 draft pick.

At least we have that.
Alright, draft discussion will begin I bet when the day is over for the teams not in the playoffs.

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
If the Lions were to sign Cassel in the offseason and therefore opt for Andre Smith at #1, what would we do at #2? Trade down? Easier said than done.

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
I hope they don't. There are other good tackles, but none of which I'd want to take #2.
The #2 spot could be a lot more valuable though after bowl games are done, and then perhaps even more after the combine.
I'm hearing Brady is behind schedule on his rehab, and the Pats will try to keep Cassel. Some mentioned the franchise tag on him as a possibility.

I think it is an average of the top 5 salaries at his position or 120% of the previous year's salary, whichever is greater...

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
Actually, they started a few weeks ago... this thread is proof!
I'm really curious to see what the Lions will do. They're bad on both sides, but Kevin Smith and Calvin Johnson look amazing and Orlovsky is coming around... so, i think they may pick defensive for their #1. their main problems on offense have been costly mistakes and turnovers (sound familiar?). But their D has not been able to contain opposing runners at all... and they desperately need to spend some picks for their Defense, just like the Rams did last 3 years running.
as a result, its totally possible the Rams will have their choice of any offensive player on the board. there may be some good safeties available in round 2 as well (fingers crossed). should be interesting.

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
He's be paid the average of the top 5 paid QBs in the league (Peyton Manning alone would raise it 20 million, lol).
They said half of it wouldn't really be just to keep him there, but to keep him from going anywhere else. The Jets are expected to really go after him, as well as the Bills. The Patriots wouldn't like that.
It's a very odd situation, but if they really wanted to do it, it would work.

This is tough. Who knows, maybe Detroit goes for Cassell and lands Smith! I didn't even think about that...
We got the number two pick. Which is good. But I'm totally worried about what we will do with the pick now...

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
If they take Cassell maybe we go for Gross in free agency. We can trade down and pick up another pick. Its not that hard to trade down its just what you are willing to accept to trade down (2nd or later pick). I have a feeling that several teams would be interested in Stafford and Crabtree. Either of those guys would also be a good replacement for Holt and Bulger should we stay becuase we will need replacements in the near future for them.
Look at it this way:
Holt (on the decline)
Smith (unproven rookie OT)
Crabtree (many years left) (unproven rookie WR)
Gross (proven OT) (use money saved from release of Holt)
This was all hypotheticaly speaking and I really doubt Detroit will make a push for Cassell. But if they did then hypothetically we could get Gross or hypothetically we could trade down. I am not the least bit concerned about this scenario.Last edited by RamsSB99; -12-28-2008 at 10:06 PM.

Re: Its official we won the #2 pick in the draft
Its not a stupid move for the pats because with the tag, its only a one year commitment, nothing long term. If brady is behind schedule as reported, and they lose cassel, they have nothing. If they tag him, they have another year to determine if brady can EVER come back full strength.

General Counsel,
also, tagging Matt Cassell is not just "protection" against Brady's injury but it also opens up "trade possibilities"......and there is a "market" for Cassell. He should be able to fetch a late 1st round or early 2nd rounder - possibly more.......Falcons got two 2nd round picks for Matt Schaub for crying out loud
