    "Its a Wonderful Trade"

When evaluating the trade of the No. 2 pick to the Redskins, we typically look at the players the Rams acquired.

I think it may be even more dramatic to ask, "Its a Wonderful Life" style, what the world would look like if the Rams had not made the trade.

RGIII would likely be a Ram. However, as Rams fans we'd be worried whether he'd be healthy for the start of the 2013 season, and whether his knee injury would be chronic.

Sam Bradford would probably be gone - maybe he'd be playing in Cleveland, or Washington, or Miami. The Rams would likely have acquired a first round pick for him, which they would have used on... Justin Blackmon, perhaps? Great, so an injured QB, and a WR suspended for the first four games of 2013.

We wouldn't have Michael Brockers... so who would be anchoring the D line?

We wouldn't have Janoris Jenkins... so who would be lining up at CB instead?

We wouldn't have Isaiah Pead... so SJax's departure would have left a bigger hole.

We wouldn't have Rokevious Watkins... so our O line would be thinner.

No Alec Ogletree... no Stedman Bailey... no Zac Stacy....

No extra first round pick in 2014 to look forward to.

So, in the end... its not a question of whether you think Sam Bradford or RGIII will, in the long run, be the better QB.

You see, Rams fans, you really had a wonderful trade. In fact, here's to the Rams...

    The richest team in town.

    Awesome post!

Here what we could look like.

    RG3
    Replaces Sam
Blackmon: Taken in the first RD rd 2012, from Sam trade
Janoris Jenkins: Taken in second round 2012 instead of Quick
Ogletree: Taken in the first RD rd 2013 @16
Montee Ball Taken in second round 2013 instead of trading up to get Austin
Stedman Bailey: Taken in the third rd 2013

    RG3
    Ball
    Blackmon
    Givens
    Bailey

That's the best I can do.

I think they would still take McDonald in the third, pretty high on the guy

Brockers has only played a few games - probably get hurt again...
Jenkins 'll probably be suspended next year...
    Pead's done nothing - probably a bust...
Stacy's another 7th round reach from a small school...
Watkins; fat and out of shape - ditto...
Ogletree won't make it through the season without getting suspended...
Bailey has yet to play a down in the NFL...
Redskins will probably win the SB, so we'll pick at #32...

Don't see any reason for optimism, just bracing for another disappointing season, as it's happened so often in the past.

You think we would have got a very high first rounder for Bradford? Who from?

Also, it's been quite evident from the things that Demoff has said recently that the team could afford to take the risk on Jenkins because they had three second rounders. I guarantee that had they just the one second rounder that they wouldn't have taken Jenkins

I think the Redskins would have traded for Bradford. Shanahan has always wanted Sammy.

From the same sources that the rumblings of Shanahan-to-the-’Skins have been emanating for months comes word that the Redskins and Mike Shanahan will target Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with Washington’s first-round pick in the draft.
I agree with the risk on Jenkins but you could easily flip that and say they would have thought twice about a small school WR in Quick. I also have read that Les viewed Jenkins as another first round pick and they planned on taking him early.

My point is when looking at what could have been is not as easy an exercise as to just say we would not have some of the same players if we went with RG3.

For the record I have always been for the trade, before we made any picks.

I think in the end, if Bradford is only an average QB the Rams made the right choice. They can always add a QB at anytime but will never be able to add so much talent across the board so fast.

If Bradford turns out to be a better QB the RG3 then this trade won't be close. Most people don't consider Bradford as part of the trade.

My favorite part of this is when you use "has yet to play a down in the NFL" as a negative toward a player, but just ignore that fact for the other rookies when it's convenient. Sheesh...

Dripping sarcasm font was obviously called for, aimed at those of us who plead cautious optimism when we're really expressing pessimism.

Sarcasm aside, it will go down in NFL history as bigger than the Herschel Walker trade.
(Or would had it not involved the Cowboys)

    Re: "Its a Wonderful Trade"

My head is spinning trying to figure out the "what if's" involved with such a scenario. Looking back, I was wrong for my bullheadedness in wanting Blackmon- but not for the reasons you might think. His numbers were good (with a horrendous QB) and I believe Fisher would've kept him on the straight and narrow, but the windfall of picks certainly allowed us to fill multiple needs and appear to have been spent wisely for the most part. The Rams made the right decision without question.

    Re: "Its a Wonderful Trade"

Without the trade we would not have had to trade up to get Austin :P I because I think we would have had a worse record last year

I think this trade will go down as the best trade ever (for the Rams), and off course this could also still be a good trade for the skins, even though I think RG3 will encounter the same problems that Vick have had throughout his career namely not being able to play full seasons.
