If we could get Simon for McDonald or Looker, I'd do it.

With the emergence of Patterson, Simon would come fairly cheap....or at least cheaper than he would have before Patterson.

I think our FO should do this. But Martz pry wouldn't approve it because we are losing offensive players. Duh

What do we need Simon for? He's undersized (293 lbs.) has had some injuries, and his recent productivity is not all that great.
2004:
Corey Simon
32 tackles
5.5 sacks
Damione Lewis
36 tackles
5.0 sacks
I'd rather keep who we have and let the Eagles continue to have a shortage of WRs.

Hey Hey now, remember Martz blew up the defense after the 2000 season and that defense was a big part of the Super Bowl run the next year.

While I agree his 2004 production didn't differ much from Lewis, keep in mind he's been much more consistent over his career than Lewis has despite having only one more year of experience. He averages over six sacks a season - Lewis has yet to get six sacks in a single season.
Two, he's eight pounds lighter than Lewis. Does that really make him undersized?
And three, if he's had problems with injuries, it certainly hasn't affected his ability to play - he's missed only two starts in the last five seasons.
That said, I don't think Simon could be acquired in a one for one deal with Looker or McDonald. But still, I'd rate Simon a lot higher than Lewis at this point.

Simon is one of the better pass rushing DTs, but he has never been that great against the Run. When Trotter has not been behind him at MLB, the Eagles were a bit soft up the middle.
If the Rams were going to make a trade, I'd want it to be for a CB with some experience.

I agree, I'd prefer a cornerback. But I wouldn't sneeze at a deal for Simon, especially now that we've added Claiborne in the middle behind him and Lewis is in a contract year.

You think looker is better than ferguson? Are you sure that you saw the saints game last year? I apologize if what you meant is that looker plus mcdonald is better than ferguson.

Re: I've got the Eagles GM on the phone. He wants to talk to you.
Keep in mind guys that a major reason surrounding simons availablity is his huge salary demands. Dont compare him to dlew, compare him to big grease. Why throw our cap structure out of whack and give up young guys to put pickett on the bench. makes no sense to me. We just dont have a need at DT, its up to the guys we have to perform. To the extent we have a need, its for proven help at corner, ie vintage vincent or taylor and that isnt going to be available for the mcdonalds and lookers of the world.
Back to my question, would anyone give up curtis for lito sheppard? Not me.

Re: I've got the Eagles GM on the phone. He wants to talk to you.
The Simon talk is just that - talk. If he wasn't already being talked about in trades, I doubt his name would have come up. I think everyone would agree that we'd rather have a CB right now, but that said, personally I think someone like Simon would upgrade a line that has been inconsistent in recent years in terms of interior pass rush, even if his contract situation and our current rotation at DT makes this basically an unrealistic situation.
As for giving up Curtis for Lito Sheppard, I'm tempted to say no, but I'd have to give it some thought. Remember, we'd still have McDonald back there in the wings. But Curtis could be a playmaker for years to come. Hard decision, but I think I like Curtis too much. The problem is you can't get talent without giving it up in a trade. The Eagles probably value Sheppard as being of higher worth than Curtis, and they probably have a reasonable point.

I will give you Kyle Turley for a number 3, you guys specialize in idiots. Turley has the right mind set that you guys like. At this time we like our WR and none of them need an attitude adjustment so they would fill out of place in your organization.

Right now, i think the guy on the eagles we could use the most (at least just for this year in an all out attempt to win it all) would be Tra Thomas. A stud tackle. Unavailable for sure, but certainly big time wish list material.
