    Bernie response on his website:

    Jackson is ending his holdout...

Jay Zygmunt got the call a short while ago...

Jackson will practice with the team tomorrow...

No contract yet -- but a team source tells me it won't take long to get it done, they are close, and both sides are confident that a deal will be reached soon.

    Great news.

    From the Post Dispatch:

    Jackson to end holdout
    By Bernie Miklasz
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    08/20/2008

Rams running back Steven Jackson is ending his holdout and will be at the team's facility this evening. He is expected to be on the field on Friday.

Jackson does not have a contract yet but sources on both sides are confident a deal will be reached soon.

Jackson surprised the team by not making the trip to Wisconsin for training camp and Wednesday was the 27th day he had missed. His total fines are $408,132 at a $15,116 per day clip.

Rams president Jay Zygmunt had said the team would not negotitate with Jackson until he was in camp.

Sources: Jackson to end holdout, return to Rams
    by Jay Glazer

Jay Glazer is a Senior NFL Writer for FOXSports.com on MSN and also appears every week on FOX NFL Sunday as the network's NFL Insider.

The St. Louis Rams' best offensive weapon is set to make his return.

Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson will go to St. Louis today in a show of good faith that he will be able to hammer out a new deal with the club, FOXSports.com has learned.

Sources close to Jackson told FOXSports.com that Jackson and his agent will make the trip in order to negotiate with the team face-to-face and are optimistic that the two sides will reach an agreement on a new contract within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Jackson had skipped all of training camp and the team's two preseason games in an attempt to force the Rams to give him a new deal. As of Wednesday, the holdout had reached 27 days, prompting Rams head coach Scott Linehan to tell the St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier in the week it was "critical" that Jackson get into camp.

"It is getting critical to where time now becomes more of an issue for just the physical part of getting ready for the opener," Linehan said. "Every day we miss now ... does start to factor in as to what the workload will be from the start."

Jackson was limited to 12 games in 2007 due to injury, but still managed to top 1,000 rushing yards for the third consecutive season. He carried the ball 237 times for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns. He also had 38 receptions for 271 yards and another score.

There's a couple of comments that are surprised he came back. Did anyone not expect him to rejoin the team before the season started?

Im not mad at him...he obviously did want to get in here, because he didnt have to come in. Im not mad at him at all. LT sits out the whole preseason. Jax can afford to miss 3/4 of it. I trust he stayed in good shape. It gave Pittman and Leonard a chance to play, and Pittman IMO solidified that backup RB spot.
