Jackson, Fitz and Bulger, and Vitt and Shaw...

I know some of you don't think much of PFW:

According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch staffer Bill Coats, Steven Jackson apparently is planning to finish his second NFL season with quite a flourish. With five games remaining, he's 155 yards short of his preseason goal of 1,000 rushing yards. So, he's ratcheted up his target number. ... A lot.

"Hopefully I can finish the season as the second-leading rusher in Rams history in a single season. That's my goal," he said.

Eric Dickerson holds the franchise record, with 2,105 yards in 1984. Dickerson also is second on the list, with 1,821 yards in 1986.

To top that total, Jackson would have to average nearly 200 yards per game the rest of the way.

    More power to him. ...

    *********************************

Also of interest. ... In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly advised reader the word is Marc Bulger, who reinjured his throwing shoulder in the Week 11 loss to Arizona, is probably down for the remainder of the year.

MRI results on his shoulder were negative early last week, but there is much more swelling in the shoulder area than there was when Bulger initially injured it in October.

The earliest PFW's sources believe he could be ready to return to action is the Rams' 14th or 15th game, by which time the team realistically figures to be out of the playoff picture. ...

    *********************************

Also according to PFW, with interim coach Joe Vitt and his staff running into their share of problems recently, the skinny at team headquarters is that front-office heavyweights John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt -- neither of whom is going anywhere, by the way -- have their sights set on a defensive-minded coach with a proven track record to spearhead a major revamping.

PFW added there are a few current assistants (the names of running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery and defensive line coach Bill Kollar have been mentioned) who could be asked to return next season.

    This space for rent...

Because Kollar has done so much with the defensive line thus far, right?

People constantly blame the main coaches (head and coordinators) when things don't go well, but very few times do you ever hear the assistant's name being brought up when guys don't produce.

Kollar has five Day One picks on that line - Little, Hargrove, Pickett, Kennedy, and Lewis - and only Pickett has showed up this year. I can understand people who blame the players for not executing. I can understand people who blame coaches. But what I don't understand is why Kollar's name is frequently passed over by those blaming coaches.

I don't think anyone has a problem with PFW. Its the rumor-mongers at PFT (Pro Football Today) that most dislike.

As Nick mentioned above, what has Kollar done that is so great. There's more money on our D-line than any other unit in our D, yet they have performed no better than the rest of that group. Kollar must have naked pictures of a lot of different people because he always seems to get a free pass from the criticism committee.

Great, just one more example of not being able to get a quality head coach with Shaw and Zygmunt micro-managing the team.
"Nice to meet you, you'll be a fine addition to our organization". "Don't bother with this part of your new staff, we've got that covered for you already"." Now as far as players go we...........
