Jackson and getting him resigned
Would this off season be the best time to get Jackson under contract with one year remaining before he has another monster year??? and try to get his name to a contract before that and using the dreaded Franchise tag.............

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
Although Money Talks, I Think Steven Jackson Wouldn't Sign Another Contract With Us Until Then End Of Next Season, (2 Reason) He Is Currently Coming Off A Season That He Did Not Execute Like Planed And The Money Would Have Been Fair. But Next Year Let's Say He Has 1,800 Yards Rushing And 5 Or 6 Hundred Yards Recieving, We Could Be Looking At The Highest Paid Rb In The League. Now # 2 It Also Depends On How Well Next Year Season Will Go To Determine Weather He Would Want To Re-sign Or Walk Also.

The draft is coming soon and there's this RB name Darren McFadden from Arkansas.

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
If I was Jackson/Holt and a number of other respected Vets from the Team I would use Jackson's recontract as a way to remove "unrespected" Losehan from the team. The FO knows it must re-sign Jackson, and I wonder how quickly they'd change their minds about Losehan if Jackson said he would not play next year w/o a new HC/OC and contract?
I'm just trying to figure out how to get rid of him.

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
SJ will not get away, if he does not sign he will get tagged. For a RB that can get hurt on any play and be done that is the worst thing that can happen, he wants a long term deal.

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
This offseason would be the best time to get a deal done. Freeing up some cap space, and Jackson knowing he is the man..... isn't that really what he's all about anyway ???
Actually he must be a wee bit humbled after this years performance, shouldn't he ??

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
There are reasons for and against resigning him in the offseason for both sides.
On Jackson's side, he's coming off a down year and he stands to make more money next year either with another team or with the Rams and just having a higher salary cap. The reason for him to sign now is to get his bonus money sooner, and to protect him against another offensive line meltdown/Losehan season.
For the Rams, the reasons to sign him now are because we have McFadden to hold over him, he just had a bad season, and the cap is lower. The reason to not sign him now is because the front office is stupid.
Edit: I did just think about the injury issue, and while I believe that it was just a symptom of the season, it does let the front office have a slight reason to not sign him until he shows that he's fully healed. Oh wait, he ruled for most of december. Ok, the only reason is that the front office is stupid.Last edited by TekeRam; -12-31-2007 at 06:57 PM. Reason: add stuff

Re: Jackson and getting him resigned
I believe you have to re-sign him now. You'll have your backfield locked up for the next (5?) years.

Also, get him locked up before he can test the market.
