Jackson Is Only Ram To Make Sporting News Top 100

Jackson is only Ram to make Sporting News Top 100
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Running back Steven Jackson was the only St. Louis Ram to make The Sporting News’ annual list of the top 100 players in the NFL. And he barely cracked the list himself, at No. 96 overall.

Jackson was the eighth-ranked running back on the list, trailing Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson (No. 3), San Diego’s LaDainian Tomilinson (No. 5), Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook (No. 17), Atlanta’s Michael Turner (No. 42), Washington’s Clinton Portis (No. 43), Tennessee’s Chris Johnson (No. 70), and Pittsburgh’s Willie Parker (No. 77).

Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning was No. 1 on the list. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings had the most players in the top 100, with seven apiece.

The top 100 was picked by a panel of 106 former players (including 27 Hall of Famers), plus executives, coaches, and other football experts. The panel included Rams general manager Billy Devaney, former Rams offensive line coach Jim Hanifan and Pro Football Hall of Famer and current CBS analyst Dan Dierdorf.

I wouldn't expect to see many Rams on this list, but Jackson the eighth ranked RB and #96 on the list? I'm a little shocked at that.

The whole list doesn't make much sense. I could point out all of the things I disagree with but I'm not going to. One thing that really stands out at me though is that Ben Rothlesburger is ahead of Drew Brees. Give Drew Brees the Steelers' defense and I'm sure he would've won more than 2 superbowls by now.

Also, Willie Parker ahead of Steven Jackson? Really?

Michael Vick shouldn't have cracked this list even before his suspension. He was never all that great of a QB.

And how the heck does Willie Parker get listed above Jackson? They are both in their 6th season and Jackson has better career stats in rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Not to mention he is 2 and a half years younger and still in his prime, whereas Parker seems to be on the decline.

Not much of a difference, but the list is from The Sporting News, not Sports Illustrated.

Especially since Parker is only going to be a 3rd down back this year for the Steelers.

The whole list is just Stupid. Jackson was rated as one of the 5 best RB"s last year. The whole poll is a joke.

I bet if Jackson played for one of the high profile teams like the Pats or Steelers he wouldn't have been so low on the list.

Say what you want about Michael Vick, but defensive players still cringe at the sound of his name. Don't believe me, ask some of them.

I did what you suggested. Not a single cringe.
