    Jackson Receives Key to Hometown

    Monday, March 12, 2007

Las Vegas, Nev. – NFL Pro Bowler and Las Vegas native Steven Jackson joined forces with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman to kick off online registration for the upcoming Las Vegas Race for the Cure®. Jackson and Goodman unveiled the name of their official Race team, “Mayors and Players,” and encouraged Las Vegas residents to join them.

Jackson and Goodman are Honorary Chairs for the 12th Annual Las Vegas Race for the Cure®, scheduled for May 5th at the Fremont Street Experience.

With the Race two months away, participants are invited to register online at www.lvraceforthecure.com either as individuals or as part of a team. Jackson and Goodman’s “Mayors and Players” team is available for anyone interested in joining.

Jackson was born and raised in Las Vegas and played football for Eldorado High School before attending Oregon State. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2004 and has quickly become one of the NFL’s most talented running backs, even making it to his first Pro Bowl last month.

This is Jackson’s first year as an Honorary Chair for the Las Vegas Race for the Cure, however he has been involved with the Race in St. Louis, where he spends much of his time playing for the Rams.

“I feel honored to be involved with the Race for the Cure in Las Vegas this year, since this city has always meant so much to me,” said Jackson. “I hope that my participation in the Race will encourage residents around the valley to come down on May 5th and help fight a disease that affects so many individuals in our community.”

This year’s Race marks the fifth consecutive year that the Race has taken place at the Fremont Street Experience, allowing for residents from all parts of the valley to conveniently participate.

“What better place to hold this incredible annual event than in Downtown Las Vegas,” said Mayor Goodman. “Each year the Race gets bigger and better and we hope to break all previous records on May 5th with more registered participants than ever before.”

At the event, Mayor Goodman also presented Steven Jackson with the official “Key to the City” in recognition of Jackson’s dedication and involvement in the Las Vegas community.
