    Jackson: Silence is best route

    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Wednesday, Dec. 19 2007

On Thursday night, Steven Jackson will see the jersey of the man he replaced in
the Rams' backfield — Marshall Faulk — be retired by the club. Asked whether he
anticipated being similarly honored someday, Jackson laughed.

"I've got to shut up for that to happen," he said. "Marshall's a great guy, and
he definitely deserves to get his jersey retired. Me, I don't know if that'll
    happen."

Jackson realizes that his earlier criticism of the atmosphere at the Edward
Jones Dome and then his comments Sunday about the horde of Green Bay fans in
the building haven't been appreciated by everyone. Especially with the Rams at
3-11 heading into the prime-time matchup with Pittsburgh.

The game has been sold out for months, and another large contingent of visiting
fans is expected to pour in. On Tuesday, Jackson declined to add fuel to the
fire that he ignited. "I think I've shared my opinion enough," he said,
    laughing again.

    Jackson's words aren't a problem for his boss, though. "Steven's a competitor;
he wants us to have a better football team," coach Scott Linehan said. "That's
one thing I don't want anyone to misunderstand."

He's always been outspoken, Jackson explained. "I haven't come from the finest
football programs," he said. "Las Vegas isn't known for football, and Oregon
State is kind of overlooked in the Pac-10. So, I've always had to try to make
myself stand out in a (different) way.

"Not only do you have to prove it on the field, sometimes you have to talk your
way into the building. As long as you produce, it's not a problem."

Jackson's production hasn't been what he wanted — his preseason goal was 2,500
total yards, some 166 more than his league-leading total of last season.
Injuries to his groin and back kept him out of four games and most of another,
    dashing those hopes.

Still, he's averaged 103 rushing yards over the last five games and needs a
total of 138 in the final two outings to reach 1,000 for the third year in a
    row.

That would mean "three consecutive years of playing at a high level, of moving
the ball on the ground," Jackson said.

Come on Steven.....you can still be angry and run over some Steelers and shake those dreds in the camera again. Show them whose house they are in.

I am hoping that Jackson has another big day, or night in this case.

IMHO there's nothing wrong with a vocal/outspoken leader.

Especially when he gets it done on the field.

As long as he runs like he did against the Packers, he can say whatever he wants in my opinion ...

Let's not forget, we are not dealing with a T.O. type player here. Just a very vocal, outspoken LEADER ....

Not sure I agree with you that he'll be gone. If I was a pro football player and it was a "home" game with a ton of fans cheering for the visitors, I'd be mad too. But I don't think that means he wants out, I think he just wants more Ram fans at the games IMHO.
