Re: Jackson's contract

I tell ya, Steven really has to prove his worth, this point in his career. Basically he's had one decent season. I would hope he gets a fair deal soon; However, he is still haunted by the ghost of Marshall Faulk.

Re: Jackson's contract

Good post DGR. He needs to earn this money he is looking for. I'm sick of all the media saying he's a top three back or what not, or him reaching 2,500 yards. I want to see this before he gets paid big time.

ramdavis - is sitting in the middle of the road
Re: Jackson's contract

he's given us three 1000yrd seasons in a row.And last year would have had alot more if he had a line blocking for him.Not to bad for a man gettin paid just over a million to play.He has always played despite being one of the most under paid players in the league.Never threatening to holdout for more money. He deserves to be treated with class and respect like he has done the franchise.Dont worry this year the NFL is going to get a steady dose of #39.When we sign him he'll be worth every penny.

Re: Jackson's contract

Thank you Ramdavis... to add to that while two of those years might have been "decent", the middle of those years was spectacular. Not to mention when he was healthy last year he had a great year, I mean 1000 yards in 11 games is a lot better than 90% of the starting running backs can do given our o line last year.

Re: Jackson's contract

I'm not really concerned about getting it done before camp or before the season starts or whatever. The real deadline is after the season when the contract is up. If we sign him now, in the middle of the season or in the next offseason - it's all good as long as he's available to play for us every week. That's what really counts. I don't worry about the timing.

I might be a little bit worried that he wouldn't want to play for the Rams at all and prefers to go play for someone else. He's had fights and disagreements with Linehan, he's played on a real loser of a team (especially last year), he's sometimes not been entirely happy with how he was used etc. So I can't help thinking maybe the grass looks greener on the other side. This isn't based on anything that I've heard him say so far, just a feeling that maybe he'd prefer to play somewhere else - I really really hope he stays, if he doesn't we might as well prepare for a lot more ugly losing seasons in the near future.

Re: Jackson's contract

The fact of the matter is, now is the best time for both sides to strike a deal, though I think it will wait until training camp due to Long still not being signed, and he needs to sign first.

Jackson should want to sign now because while it seems that the O line will be better this year, and certainly can't get as hurt, everything still revolves around Pace, and he's a question mark. Is he injury prone, or just unlucky? By signing now Jackson gets financial security. If he gets hurt again or has a down year, that will hurt his value drastically. On the other hand, he could gamble, which for him might not be a bad idea, and if he rocks this year his value will skyrocket as he's just entering his prime years.

For the Rams, he's the lone wolf. Who do we replace him with if he walks at the end of the year? We need to lock him up and now. Last year he managed 100 yards in 11 games, which was great, but imagine what he could do this year. It's much safer to bet on Jax doing well than poorly, and so we need to lock him up before he gets too expensive.

As such, both sides should be looking to get a contract in place be the end of camp.

I agree, lets get it done now, it benefits both sides and this guy doesn't need to prove anything, if you thought we were bad last season, think about it without Jackson, this guy is the real deal, just pay him.
