It was clearly tripping and was a legitimate penalty.

Here's an idea, how about guys start to commit to not making so many stupid penalties?

Yeah but Long lifted his leg and tripped him. He did not need to do that Sam had already thrown the ball.

Nice pass, nice route and catch by Tavon.

Even if Jake long didn't trip, it would have not affected the play at all. Just a bad call, I mean, who calls that?

Exactly ticky tack but then you saw what an abomination of a ref crew is capable of, losing control of a football game. This league is a joke when it comes to crews like this one and I hardly EVER blame the refs for anything but they were atrocious.

The replacement refs would not have been worse. I'm not going to just say it was lopsided against us, but the lack of awareness they displayed when the game got chippy was incredible. Took no initiative to settle anything down.

You are spot on. The officials lost control of this game. Carolina was getting away with all kinds of chippy crap. When the Rams retaliated the flags came out. It really got bad after they botched the false start on carolina and instead called Long for encroachment. Two plays later Long was disqualified.

Rams were very undisciplined but so many chippy non calls on Carolina.

Yep, totally legitimate penalty that was totally unnecessary. Maybe it could be seen as ticky-tacky, but it happened just before Bradford released the ball, and more importantly, it happened right in front of the official. Not a smart play by Long.

The officiating was a joke, but the retaliators almost ALWAYS are the ones who get flagged. The Rams played right into the Panthers hands and lost their composure. Simply inexcusable.

And the officials were even more undisciplined. That call on Long was an absolute joke. The replay clearly shows the false start. Which I believe was going to be the initial call before some idiot official over ruled during the officials conference that took place. After that the firestorm broke loose.

Re: The Jake Long Penalty on the Long Austin td

In my book, for the money he is making, Jake Long has been disappointing. He is not terrible, but he is hardly playing at a pro bowl level. It was a stupid penalty. Meanwhile, Carolina didnt get called for a single offensive hold and they had two or three obvious ones especially on Newton scrambles. the officiating is NOT the reason the rams lost. Self inflicted wounds. You cant blame dropped balls on the officials, nor can you blame the austin fumble or the failure to convert tds twice inside the ten yard line, let alone the INT for a td.
