Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
Yup. Wayne Hunter is actually WORSE than Jason Smith at RT. I hope we get something else in the deal, or else we literally just downgraded our depth. At least we will save some cap space, hopefully opening up a new opportunity.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
Wow!
Amazing how things work out in this day and age with high draft picks.
All the scrutiny and research, the measuring and probing, the testing, the drilling, the film study, and on and on.
And what are we left with?
Just good old fashioned guesswork gone bad.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
Per Brian McIntyre of NFL.com, the Jets actually pick up some salary obligation in the deal. Smith took a major pay cut in the offseason, is still guaranteed $4 million in 2012, $1.55 million more than Hunter. Smith is also due $12 million in 2013, but his 2013 season voids if he plays in at least 31% of the snaps. Smith's estructure from earlier this year made the 2013 year moot. If Smith doesn't have a voided contract, there's no chance he's on the roster when an $11.25 million roster bonus comes due.
Hunter, selected in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Hawaii by the Seattle Seahawks, started all 16 games for the Jets in 2011, but was totally embarrassed in a 26-3 Week 2 loss to the New York Giants in which he allowed 2 1/2 sacks and looked outmatched at all times. One would expect that Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, already suffering from an inconsistent line, his third offensive coordinator in as many years, and an alarming lack of targets once again, is starting to wonder if someone up there doesn't like him.Last edited by Rambos; -08-27-2012 at 09:58 PM.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
For the most part I love what the FO has done thus far, with the one glaring exception being the offensive line. Between Smith, Richardson, and now Hunter, the Rams have had 3 of the worst offensive tackles in the NFL from last season on their roster competing for a starting job. None of these guys should be starting anywhere and I'd have to imagine that OT is going to shoot to the top of the list of priorities next offseason.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
I have to admit, I'm torn about this.
My first reaction was that the Rams coaches and front office must have a reason for this move. Probably a combination of Schott's familiarity with Hunter and the money savings.
Then I read a couple of posts from random fans who claim that Hunter is worse than Smith and I thought... well, they must know what they're talking about. They must be experienced scouts or coaches who really know their stuff. After all, if they're not, they'd have to be a couple of naysaying jerks to immediately condemn a deal that the Rams' coaches and front office personnel think is a good idea.
I just don't know what to think now.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

I can tell you obviously haven't watched not even 1 Jets game. Pre-season week 1 Wayne Hunter allowed 3 sacks which should have been 4, and he even got himself to trend nationally on twitter because of how trash he was. Last year he allowed 11 sacks, 32 pressures, and 11 penalties. Yeah Av, sounds real good to me!

The only thing worse than your presumptuousness is your grammar.
Did you just back up your argument by citing to national trends on Twitter? Seriously?Pre-season week 1 Wayne Hunter allowed 3 sacks which should have been 4, and he even got himself to trend nationally on twitter because of how trash he was.
I'm not claiming that Hunter is a good RT. I'm simply acknowledging that the people making the trade know more than you, me or anyone else on this board.Last year he allowed 11 sacks, 32 pressures, and 11 penalties. Yeah Av, sounds real good to me!
Heck, if all the Rams are getting is an even trade for a flawed backup RT and enough extra cap room to ensure that they lock in James Laurinaitis, then its a good deal.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

And yet you claim we don't know what we are talking about because we aren't NFL scouts. Don't comment on things you have no idea on! Hunter is 31 and hes been one of the worst if not the worst RT's in the game today, but yes, since we aren't being paid by professional sports teams we must have no idea what we are watching!

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
I think its time for the Rams to give a 2nd or 3rd rounder for a stud Olineman or two. What a failure this season will be if Bradford gets knocked around every other snap and turns into Carr.
