Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
I wonder how the "fans" would have reacted if the Rams had simply cut Smith.
My guess is that a lot of the people who are whining about Hunter would have approved of such a move.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Ventesette brings up the possibility of using Hunter in a jumbo package as a TE, helping Richardson makes sense.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
I truly thought Saffold and Smith were going to be given every opportunity to erase the ills of last season and I was looking forward to seeing that come to fruition. It would have made us a better ball club. Obviously, the coaches felt in Smith's case that wasn't going to happen.
And of the hundreds of football players I've heard discussed by a number of people on TV and radio the last week or so, Wayne Hunter is the guy who has generated the most scorn hands down. The Rams now have him. I hope this guy can get the job done when called upon, because he certainly didn't with the Jets.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
Hunter has been lambasted by people that want to blame him for the poor play of Sanchez. Hunter is not great, but was part of an 8-8 team last year and started the AFC title game in 2010. He played deep in the playoffs when Woody was hurt. He has looked terrible in 2012, but he is coming off a back injury and may not be suited to the new man blocking scheme the Jets are moving to under Sparano and Deguglielmo.
It certainly wasn't way too early to give up on Smith. Once he lost the job in 2012 he was done. Nobody is going to pay him an $11M bonus (due March 2013), so what's the sense of keeping him around?

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
What this tells me is the Rams knew Smith was going to be cut on Friday. They traded him to someone who was $1.5 million less of a player than Smith, whatever that means.
Maybe Schotty thinks Hunter is worth trying to develop as a LG. Maybe he loves the guy's attitude and thinks he can be a solid addition as a backup. Who knows? It really isn't relevant, just know Smith wasn't likely going to be on the team after Friday whether this trade occurred or not.

Re: Jason Smith to Jets (Not Finalized, yet)
The thread's focus is about the Smith and Hunter trade. Smith and Hunter are the main subjects of discussion. If you feel that your opinion of Hunter is not relevant, I don't see why you are in this thread then.
And the previous regimes (nonetheless were still RAMS regimes) thought a player like Drew Bennett was worth cutting Kevin Curtis for. Were we not supposed to give an opinion on that situation because it sure ended well didn't it?But, again... who cares? My point... which you continue to miss, is that the Rams coaches and front office clearly thought this trade was a beneficial move, so to come out with statements like "OH MY GOD! HUNTER IS WORSE THAN SMITH!!!" is just, well... stupid.
Oh, and the previous RAMS organization also drafted Jason Smith. Great move right? We wouldn't DARE to question that draft pick...because it was so perfect.
The point YOU are missing pal is that no NFL employee is close to perfect. Some are terrible but obtained the job due to connections whether by family or by close friends. That is why some are one and done, and others are out of jobs within 5-6 years.
Telling a forum designated to let fans submit their opinions on everything that happens in Rams world that we need to trust and believe in every move that the front office makes is highly ridiculous.
Great attempt in trying to portray me as a person that only knows how to golf and fish. Real intellectual move, as seeing that this is not a golf or fishing forum I would expect there not to be any discussions of the sort. I expected more from a lawyer. Guess the ego got in the way.Of course, if the discussion turns to golf and fishing, I'll be sure to get your opinion before commenting."The potential in our lives far exceeds what we ordinarily imagine."
