Jason Smith Sold Rams With Passion
Jason Smith Sold Rams With Passion
By Jeff Gordon
Billy Devaney admits that Eugene Monroe would have been an out-of-the-box left tackle, ready to go from Day One.
Smith, who came to Baylor as a defensive end, moved to tight end and played both tackles. Baylor played in a spread offense, so he spent a lot of time playing upright.
He will need more work. “His potential is good now,” Devaney said. “His potential is outstanding.”
But the football people fell in love with Smith’s persona and potential. So Smith rose to the top of the draft board this week.
“Just the mentality this guy plays with,” Devaney said. “We’ve been stressing the smart part, the passionate part, the productive part. He’s off the charts in those categories.
“We just thought for what we’re trying to put together here, he’s the perfect fit for us. I think you’ll enjoy the person. He’s an outgoing, fun-loving guy that takes football very, very seriously.
“So we couldn’t be an happier to have a guy like Jason Smith on the Rams.”

Will Smith Play LT or RT? Stay Tuned
By Jeff Gordon
Many experts believe Jason Smith will develop into a dominant left tackle in the NFL. Trouble is, Alex Barron is better on the left side than right.
So which player will play which side?
Coach Steve Spagnuolo isn’t writing anything in ink just yet.
“It’s like any other team you put together,” he said. “You get him in here, we’ll do what’s best. You have to give us a little time to get him in helmets and pads first. We’ll work all that out. He’ll give us a little bit of versatility and another quality player.
“Anything is possible.”
What did Smith believe is his best position?
“Football,” Jason said. “I can play wherever they put me.”

Re: Jason Smith Sold Rams With Passion
I swear to all that is Mutton if Smith was drafted #2 to play RIGHT tackle for a couple of years I will give up on hope that this organization will ever break .500 again.
I too keep reading that Barron more than likely will be LT and Smith RT.
Aside from the fact that I didnt like the Smith pick in the 1st place, the Rams could have taken Curry then taken an OT in rd 2. Why?
well next year we can all expect to see yet another OT that will be heralded as the next coming of Anthiny Munoz, Orlando Pace, Jake Long, etc.....
O lineman are a dime a dozen.

Re: Jason Smith Sold Rams With Passion
So many articles coming, going over the 2009 NFL Draft. I haven't seen this one; I think it belongs (PASSION):
Baylor OT Smith is no joke
From NFL[dot com] Draft / Friday April 24, 2009
Jason Smith doesn’t play around. While most of the other draft prospects saw their opportunity to talk with kids at an NFL Play 60 event as a chance to smile for the cameras, joke around and dispense cliches, Smith got serious.
The 6-foot-5, 309-pound offensive tackle noticed a cluster of kids seated in the back of the group chatting away and ignoring the panel of players. So Smith immediately raised his voice and sternly called them to attention: “Pssst, the kids in the back. Listen to what I’m saying.”
Smith then stood erect and focused his laser-like eyes on the audience of kids before saying he had three very important things to tell them. Seeing as how Smith has a commanding voice and large presence, it didn’t take long before the kids simmered down and turned their attention to the burly Baylor Bear.
Smith started out with a simple yet forcefully delivered message: “First, always listen to your parents!” He then continued by telling the kids to stay in school and to “always do the right thing, and learn right from wrong, so you can do the right thing.”
Smith gave one last glare to make sure the kids took his advice to heart before passing the microphone on to the next prospect.
If this football thing doesn’t work out, Smith might just have a future as a school principal.

A defeated look of consternation, dissappointment, or even pain. The name derives from the look one often gets when challenged by a large BM.
