Re: Jeff Fisher responded to Bernie Kosar broadcast

Regardless of all the drama, I'm still concerned with the quality of our back-up QB situation.

A mea culpa from Kosar, and a rationalized apology from the Browns would not surprise me at all.

Re: Jeff Fisher responded to Bernie Kosar broadcast

Peter King has now gotten into the fray :

    Peter King ✔ @SI_PeterKing

My question for Kosar after comments in Cle-StL preseason game: Were you drinking? Good guy. But waaay over the top here.

    5:19 PM - 10 Aug 2013
    Peter King ✔ @SI_PeterKing

Kosar called WRs, including 1st-rd pick Tavon Austin "horrible.'' Said their parents "would be embarrassed'' if they were watching game ....

    5:38 PM - 10 Aug 2013
    Peter King ✔ @SI_PeterKing

Kosar on Kellen Clemens: "Bless me Father for I have sinned. I have to watch him the whole fourth quarter."

    5:38 PM - 10 Aug 2013
    Peter King ✔ @SI_PeterKing

If Kosar's judgment has been impacted by concussions, then the Browns should be heavily criticized for putting him on a 3-hr telecast,

    5:44 PM - 10 Aug 2013
    Peter King ✔ @SI_PeterKing

Don't go saying, "Bernie doesn't know what he's saying because of concussions." Doesn't work that way. If you're on air, you're responsible.

Re: Jeff Fisher responded to Bernie Kosar broadcast

I watched the game in its entirety this AM. I did feel that at times, Kosar offered an insight that was keen and helpful to me....i.e. reading a blitz, base coverage, etc. But, his comments were so blatantly over the top in his criticism of the Rams, I racked my brain to recall any beat down he took by the Rams. None came to mind. He seemed simply bent on personal attacks of certain players and coaches.

For sure, I think our receivers should have done a better job of catching the football. But to characterize the group as "horrible" and stating their parents should be embarrassed is something I have never heard from a person in the booth......not even Cosell!

On the bright side, do not have to listen to him again........

I've always been a big supporter of Austin Davis, so one would expect that I'd support Kosar's statements about Clemens, but I do not. It's a pre-season game for goodness sake and in that regard it's like a walk through for a stage production. However, I don't understand why the so-called 'veteran' QBs, who are clip-board holders at best, get much playing time during the pre-season. If Bradford goes down, play Davis but for goodness sake don't play Clemens. He's a 'veteran back-up' for a reason. He doesn't have the juice. However, Kosar needs to shut his pie hole at the same time.

Re: Jeff Fisher responded to Bernie Kosar broadcast

Follow up article mentioning Browns reaction...

CLEVELAND — The Browns have told former quarterback Bernie Kosar to “watch his words.”

On Sunday, team CEO Joe Banner condemned Kosar for harsh on-air comments he made about the St. Louis Rams during Thursday night’s TV broadcast of their exhibition opener against Cleveland.

Kosar, working as an analyst, was brutal in his assessment of third-string quarterback Kellen Clemens, the Rams’ receivers and receivers coach Ray Sherman.

Banner said Kosar’s conduct was unacceptable.

“We don’t condone the personal and unprofessional approach that Bernie took with some of his comments during the broadcast Thursday night,” Banner said in a statement released by the team. “We’ve spoken to Bernie, he understands that, and we would expect the situation is resolved moving forward. We’ve also reached out to the Rams organization and have shared those same sentiments.”

if he wasn't a commentator then i wouldn't care, but he was announcing, so it's unprofessional. Period.

I agree with Peter King that he was possibly drunk. Several times the way he talked sounded drunk....slurred speech, strange tones, and interrupting his partner. His comments about the Rams were mostly over the top negative, while his comments for the Browns were over the top positive. This behavior is fine for a delusional homer fan, but definitely not for a professional commentator for Fox.

Very well put. I've read worse things written on this board but he was pretty mean & certainly inappropriate in that job. But that's also what made it funny.

BK is batpoop crazy & pre-season means nothing except injuries and depth chart.Chillax,imo.

Pretty sure Fisher is freakin' loving this. Possibly, the motivational tool of the year. Thanks Bernie.

Any guy who would be as unprofessional as Bernie was- calling the Rams' receivers "an embarrassment" among his many other transgressions- yet NOT be embarrassed having a daughter who works as a porn star has skewed standards. One group of guys are going out there busting their ass and giving it everything they have
Well, I guess technically both............nah, on 2nd thought.

If you don't think porn stars bust their asses too... you're not watching the right stuff!

I agree Bernie was over the top. But, none of us would be talking about this if our players had played better (catch the freakin ball and don't fumble it!) and we had won the game.

These poor, little rich kids shouldn't need any motivation, but if they do, Bernie gave them some...

Of course, he was totally inappropriately candid in the stuff he said but I think the reaction is out of proportion among the fans. No idea if our WR coach is any good, do you ?
I honestly didn't know about his concussion history and I only made it through half the game, but I agree. Nothing he said was outrageously wrong. It was just how he said it.

It was actually funny how the other announcer would talk over him as a respite from the Kosar tirades. And at the same time it was pretty sad listening to the rantings of a depressed mad man.

I wish him well with that problem he has ... whatever it is

If Fisher is actually caring about this in any way. He is dumber then I thought he could ever be and is wasting his time. Tv is for controversy and not worth paying attention too and the fact is by and large the Rams did look kind of crappy. This isn't a real problem as far as Kosar is concerned but the team needs lots of work and he wasn't wrong about that
