Fassel set to interview with Rams on Thursday
Posted: January 4th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Jim Fassel, NFL coaching search, St. Louis Rams

After finishing as a runner-up for the Redskins’ head-coaching job last offseason, Jim Fassel is in the running for the Rams’ vacancy this offseason.

Fassel is scheduled to interview with the Rams on Thursday in St. Louis.

Fassel has spent this season as a football radio analyst, providing color commentary. He broadcast the Cardinals-Falcons wild-card game Saturday and now will begin preparing for his next assignment Thursday.

The Rams also are high on Packers assistant Winston Moss.

Re: Jim Fassel

Give other coordinators a chance...I really don't want to settle for anyone until all of the people we want to interview are available and if that means waiting until the superbowl is over then so be it.

We appear to have a contradiction

What'd Jim Fassel ever do to you? He's got the head coaching experience some people have been looking for, he wasn't horrible as a head coach. If you sweep that whole Baltimore thing under the rug and ignore that Giant meltdown against San Fran in the playoffs it doesn't seem so bad.

You guys like that? Giant meltdown...I'm the next Carlin

Re: Jim Fassel

Just another interview is all. Nothing is indicating he's a finalist.

Re: Jim Fassel

Oh wait, this just in... if you are currently within the St. Louis city limits, you are now officially considered a finalist in the Rams' head coaching search.

Re: Jim Fassel

Take it with a grain of salt....Shefter is not all that reliable on his reports....Devany himself already shot down the report Adam made about Moss getting a 2nd interview call already.

Reports: Fassel to interview with Rams
STLTODAY.COM SPORTS
01/05/2009

1 p.m. Monday update:

Jim Fassel, who coached the New York Giants to the Super Bowl after the 2000 season, will interview with the Rams for their vacant head-coaching job, according to a report posted by NFL.com and a broadcast report on ESPN.

Fassel, 59, will interview in St. Louis on Thursday, according to the reports.

He last coached in the NFL in 2006, when he was fired as Baltimore's offensive coordinator.

Fassel, who was head coach of the Giants from 1997-2003, was a finalist for the Washington Redskins' head-coaching job that went to Jim Zorn last winter.

His head coaching record in the NFL is 58-53-1. Fassel's Giants lost the 2001 Super Bowl to the Ravens 34-7.
