Very nice job by the front office; Wells should step in and be a stabilizing force on the center of this line.

good quality pick up. he may be 31 but at his position he should have a fair few years left in him barring any major injuries.

2012 Free Agency: Rams Sign Former Packer Center Scott Wells
By Eric Nagel on Mar 16, 2012 6:22 PM CDT
It's been a slow few days for Rams fans as the initial burst of excitement over signing Cortland Finnegan has began to fade. However, Jim Thomas is now reporting that the Rams have made their second move in free agency: signing former Packer center Scott Wells to a contract. The details of the contract have not yet been released.
This move shores up the position that was opened when the Rams released Jason Brown. Wells is a 31 year old veteran who started 96 games for the Packers, and made the Pro Bowl in 2011.
The Packers had the 8th best line last year (Mid/Guard) in Adjusted Line Yards from Football Outsiders, which puts value to how much run blocking they provide. He was also #95 on PFT's Top 100 Free Agents.Last edited by viper; -03-16-2012 at 07:48 PM.

Nice!
Very happy with this signing. So far we've gotten two quality players at positions of need. Go FO!
As always, will be interested to see what we paid him. My bet: 4 years, 20ish million.

I'm very pleased the O line was an issue and we are on our way to fixing it. Now go get Eric Winston!

Wow, who saw this one coming? I would have rather had W. Winston first, but this isn't bad depending on what the numbers look like.

Good signing, while everything was going on I was hoping this would get done in the side. Now if we can get Winston that would be awesome! Also, great position to draft a Center late and let him learn behind Wells??

Re: Jim Thomas: Rams agree to terms with C Scott Wells
A really good signing that upgrades the interior and gives Sam someone that will know what the defense is doing. He should automatically start calling out line adjustments and take pressure off Sam pre-snap, because I thought he had trouble with that last season. Add this to Finnegan and either Jason Jones or Kendall Langford, this is a really good offseason. Last year was quantity, this year is quality. Big difference.
My guess is 4 million signing bonus and then salaries of 4,5,5,6 with incentives for playoffs and first two years salary guaranteed.

Re: Jim Thomas: Rams agree to terms with C Scott Wells
Nice!! I was wanting Scott Wells when it was announced we were releasing Brown. Reasons? He is solid at his position, has worked with a All-Pro QB which is a tell all sign he is good at what he does, brings in the confidence and experience of being a recent Super Bowl and NFC Conferrence champion... A center is the QB of the O-Line which will be great for us once get it sqaured away... Remember we still have Wraggae as G and C backup which is a good thing!
