Re: John Alston at DE??

Yeah, I did. I was just messing around with the positions, and when i moved him to RE, his Overall was 92, I looked in shock. I tried it out, and he had 16 sacks on the season with 76 total takles, and 56 solo.

Re: John Alston at DE??

I believe he could add about 40 or 50 pounds, there is no guarantee, but it has to be better than anthony hargrove, or victor adeyanju. james hall will help, no question, but It should atleast be tried during the preseason. I mean you never know.

Re: John Alston at DE??

Oh dear God no.

He's a LB/S tweener. He'd have to add a huge amount of bulk to even be considered for DE. RF81's right. He would be manhandled.

Re: John Alston at DE??

yeap, he was an unblockable monster, who could not be stopped. he hit tom brady so hard, it broke his spine and forced him to retire. I love happy endings.

Re: John Alston at DE??

I never said he wouldnt have to add alot of weight. this obviously couldnt happen during the middle of the season, this would have to happen durring the offseason and during mini camp and training camp. it would be worth trying atleast. if we can move mike furrey to FS from WR than we can move john alston.

No, it wouldn't. And here's why.

Alston is small, has no experience playing DE whatsoever, would get absolutely battered there, and in no way would assist our quest to stop the run, because there'd be an Offensive Tackle on top of him at all times. The skills necessary to play DE and LB are not greatly comparable.

Whereas DBs cover WRs, making Furrey was a different story. He's back playing reciever now. Why do you think Troy Brown could make the switch mideason 2005 for the Pats? Because the skills necessary are closely related. Admittedly, the DB's have the Turn and Cover, which a WR does not have to do, but it was easier to make the sqitch because there is no great difference in height/weight required.

That is not to say that any WR can convert to S.

But it's easier than Alston, a LB/S tweener, at 220 pounds, to convert to DE, where he'd be tossed around all over the shop.
